    Hey folks,
I’m editing a live band video and it was shot in 1920×1080 24p. I started out editing the multiclips in its native format with the xdcam codec. Once I was done I moved the edit to a sd timeline at 720×486 29.97fps Proress 422(HQ) anamorphic. The problem I’m having is that the footage is being squeezed. I’ve double checked all of my settings. Anyone have any ideas? I’m thinking it has to do with the multiclip function.

I quickly found that it caused some problems copying and pasting, so I dragged the footage.

Yes, We shot in HD and I’m wanting to layoff to SD DVD.

    Wes,

The method that has worked best for me is to export a Quicktime movie of your HD sequence and take that directly into Compressor to do your SD DVD. Copying and pasting clips has caused all sorts of problems, and the end result isn’t any better.

I’m sending it to Compressor using 90min best settings/quality 16:9 and then Authorizing in DVD Studio Pro 16:9 letterbox.

How did you move the edit, did you copy-paste the clips or did you drag the HD sequence itself (from the browser or the viewer) into the SD timeline?

I often find this as a problem of dropping anamorphic footage into sequence for which is is not intended and in these instances it is easily fixed by removing the distort attributes. the quick way to do this is select all squished clips, cmd+alt+v (remove attributes) and uncheck distort.

The reason I placed the footage into an SD timeline was to have some extra control over the footage by being able to pan and zoom. Anyway, ultimately my edit was polished in the SD timeline and I would be losing a lot of edit/ motiongraphics time if I go back and cut in the HD timeline. Thanks for the suggestion though, lesson learned.

You should export a reference movie and then open that reference movie in compressor and then encode using an SD preset or make your own. You can keep the frame rate 23.98 as well. Make sure you keep the format to widescreen (tracks and menus).

1920 x 1080 is not anamorphic. Did you collapse the multiclip when you were done with the edit?

What are you trying to do? Layoff an Sd copy or something?
