Walter is correct,
We use Firewire 800 to capture both HDCAM
and DVCPRO HD to G-raids.We do most editing in DVCPRO HD….
If you require a true uncompressed capture and edit
then you will probably need to visit
your local post house. -
Try a different computer if possible.
Or copy the disc image to another drive.
Or copy the disc image to a DVD-ROM and try
to mount from that.
In future you are safer just copying the P2
card to another folder.
Apple advice of making a disc image is
just plain crazy.
I have copied thousands of cards to HD and
made back-ups on DVD.
On can take the DVD-ROM and it
can be read by MAC or PC.
Handy when your MAC system is tied
up and you need to see what is
on that P2 card you can pop it
in a PC and look at the clips using
the Panasonic P2 viewer. -

24p footage at 29.97 needs a “reverse tele-cine” not a conform.
Try that and see if that works. -
Hello Jason,
That method is used because of the HDV interlacing.
You will not experience that with progressive footage.
Just make a self-contained .mov of your timeline
then drop that into a 16:9 Compressor DVD template.
We make fantastic DVD’s using this method from
HVX200 footage. -

Producing for almost 30 years….
Commercials, corporate, and now we only
shoot and edit HD. I have never produced
long-form doc work and I could see where
P2 might be a challenge to work with
in that environment. But Pana is coming
out with new cameras that will hold 5 P2 cards
and shoot HD at 50 Mbps using the AVC-Intra mode.
You could in theory shoot 320 min at 50 Mbps
using the 720 24p mode and 5 8 gig cards…. -
The HVX P2 workflow is perfect for the kinds of jobs I do.
It’s more like shooting 16MM film, except the “film”
is much cheaper. I guess if you need to do weddings
or corporate dinner presentations then the Sony
would be OK.
