I would say that you should get rid of your prefs file.
Or I would suggest you do a clean install of FCP.

Put on your reading glasses! You did not read and comprehend what I wrote. What I said, that if the tool does not offer complete functionality then the tool is of dubious function. I went back into the manual and the software does offer the functionality that is needed, but somehow my system configuration is somehow not responding as it sure. First, in order to get anything through the headphones, the “Built In Line Output” needs to be selected from the Audio submenu.
It is VERY insulting that you use the term “operator error.” Just because you get your picture on the website does not give you the right to insult others with your obvious elitist attitude. Using the term “operator error” is a cop out just to make yourself feel important….just as you in an earlier made the “factual error” of not knowing about the “headphone toggle” switch in the menu…
You know NOTHING, buddy, about the TV news business and workflows go on. Soundtrack Pro is too cumbersome. It’s like trying to kill a gnat with a cannon.
I WILL get the answer to the problem and will post it.
Be well.

Andy….
Please answer this question…
You can offer the solution you have offered, and it is valid, but you have not answered/obfuscated the basic question?
Then WHY is there a headphone regulation toggle? Is it just to make the dialog box more pretty? Make you more impressive to others who don’t know who are watching over your shoulder? Come’on now, buddy….use your head!
While I appreciate your reply to the original query, something I already know, obviously you don’t know the answer to the direct question on the functionality of this preset.
Your answer is a little like when I went to my local Apple store to try get a solution why the wireless card on my MacPro tower was dropping the connection to my network all the time. The “greeter” to the Apple tech bar kept convincing me that it was not about the card, but “there are little tiny wires” inside of the computer that are not connecting and I need to take the behemoth to be looked at on the spot. He didn’t really know what he was talking about, but he felt that he needed to “fill the air” to say “something.”
Again, thanks for your input…which was a solution I already knew and am using…but shouldn’t have to if the software has the functionality already installed to be used.
Take care…

Then the whole application is a piece of software junk. And this is the opinion of a professional voiceover artist.
Again, but that doesn’t answer the question why there is a whole function of “headphone volume” within the application.
I do use a recording interface, but it should not be necessary.
I think I’m going to investigate this further directly with Apple.
Thanks again for your contribution!

I just had this problem the other day.
This is an easy fix.
You need to go in and delete all of the prefs file for Final Cut.
Here is what you need to do:
1. Quit Final Cut Pro (although it sounds like you can’t open it anyway)
2. Click the Finder icon in the Dock.
3. From the Go menu, choose Go to Folder.
4. Type: ~/Library/Preferences/ Note: The tilde “~” refers to your home directory.
5. Click Go.
6.Drag and delete the file named “com.apple.FinalCutPro.plist” to the Trash .
7.Double-click the folder named “Final Cut Pro User Data”.
8. Drag and delete the file named “Final Cut Pro Preferences” to the Trash.
9. Drag and delete the file named “Final Cut Pro POA Cache” to the Trash.
10. Drag and delete the file name “Final Cut Pro Obj” (or name thereabouts) to the Trash. What has happened is that the Prefs file contains your scratch disk info, Final Cut Pro settings and somehow it got corrupted (usually if something didn’t agree with the program). When you restart Final Cut Pro it will ask for the initial setup info. Then when you go to open the project you should be good to go.
Let me know if this works! Best of luck!

Where is that toggle switch? Is it a physical toggle switch? Software toggle?

Everything else works VERY well…I have set the system to accept and install all updates….
All of my other FCP projects run great….very smoothly…super fast…
Sheesh…rotating beach ball of death…now that’s a good one!
