    i’ve never had any issues with sequence layers.
    Normally it will sequence them in the order that you select them, (ie, top to bottom, bottom to top).
    How exactly is it screwing up?

  • it sounds like a conflict between your footage interpretation settings and your comp settings. would you mind looking those up? you might find that your pixel aspect ratio is different from the comp settings.

    Hey Todd,

    You can make shatter maps the same as you do with displacements. Just make a black and white grid of your butterfly sillhouette in a precomp and set it as your shatter map. voila!

    Oh and you could also add in an adjustment layer with CC Force Motion blur to enhance your shatter effect. if you don’t use force motion blur, it won’t blur at all (dunno why it’s not built in like Particle World)

    Try going to “Edit/Purge/All”

  • Check the corner pin effect. this is exactly the type of thing it is designed for. combine that with displacement mapping and you should have a pretty realistic effect. i would also recommend glowing your animation a bit. for semi-realistic shadow interaction, you might want to apply subtle gradients to the composite will make it even more awesome

    Here’s a way to get something similar without any 3rd party software.

    Duplicate your original footage and turn off the top layer.
    then do the following to the bottom layer –
    1. Apply MOSAIC and ADD GRAIN (in that order).
    2. Make your MOSAIC blocks large as well as your grain settings.
    3. in ADD GRAIN, under the “Animation” flyout, make sure you have “Animate Smoothly” checked off and “Animation Speed” set to something moderately slower than the default value.

    Turn back on the top layer and turn it’s opacity to half, blending it into the marred footage. Then use an adjustment layer to gaussian blur the whole thing say, 3.5 or so..

    i’d keep messing around with this stuff.. it can be taken much further

    a quick way to do this would be to put drop in the fill, then add in Color Balance (HLS) and rotate the hue over time. I use this technique all the time to get that effect of rapid, interpolated color changes, plus you can mess with the lightness and saturation as well! have fun! 🙂

    Cody, there is a simpler way;
    Try using the “Color Balance (HLS)” which has a keyframable Saturation Slider.
