..not sure how to download the basic training though. Maybe if you look around you might find a way, so far i haven’t.

  • Hm, well let’s see what’s required. There isn’t 1 single tutorial that i know of that teaches this.

    Try these.
    The Healer
    Demon Face Warp
    Basic Sky Replacement
    Advanced Sky Replacement

…and if you find that he’s talking over your head, just use these..

also, do not make the mistake that many make when watching tutorials; do not simply watch them and then try to memorize what he did. take advantage of the fact that it’s a prerecorded video and PAUSE it, then try to do exactly what he just did, make sure you got it right, then resume the video. That is how you should watch the video. Also, when you’re done, try to do what he did again without watching the video.

  • well, if it’s really that bad and your only option is to stamp them back into correct exposure then what you’ll want to do is duplicate the original footage (one duplicate for each bird perhaps), do your stamp as you normally would but set it to “paint on transparent”. Then you can precomp it, set the anchor point to the center of the stamp, and manually/auto animate/track it. don’t be afraid to use some distortion fx, and maybe even some match grain if it’s noticable. also the comp’s motion blur should match the motion blur of actual camera, so be wary of that as well.

it looks like all they did was make a 2d animation, precomp it, duplicate the precomp, and make the two duplicate comps 3d layers. then you could just parent 1 to the other and voila oh yea and you might wanna make the one in back more transparent. oh and one last thing, you wanna set use a luma matte for the whole end result so that the glass highlights stay intact a bit. play with the transparency of that matte.

    Thanks Joe,

I use tons of presets; if i didn’t the workload would CERTAINLY bring the quality down and disappoint people. I have presets and templates for everything from DVD menus to output formats. I also have found that being extremely organized is super helpful because I’m always juggling multiple projects so having my “img”, “ftg”, “out/ae”, “out/fcp”, etc.. folders help me handle that. By the way, i love osx’s color-coded folders.. so nice.

However, i can still improve. I will take your suggestion and bump it up another notch or two, see what i can actually handle in terms of running a tight ship. I don’t honestly know off the top of my head what or how I’m going to be improving, but perhaps that’s part of the problem; maybe i think I’ve reached the top of organization and expedience and yet there’s so much more! I will seek to become a cyborg-like commercial-producer/graphics-head/news-package-producer.
