Who builds the Pro Plasmas? Where are they built? I know the parts are different but I haven’t seen any documentation covering the QC process.

For anyone interested here’s the chart results from a pre and post calibrated Panasonic consumer plasma. This is for the 50″ G25 which runs about $1400 – $1500.

Unless I’m mistaken, the post calibration is pretty much spot on. I don’t see much of a point besides i/o to get a Pro Plasma anymore.

You can get REC 709 by hiring a decent ISF calibrator. Doesn’t a Davio cost $6000?

How complicated is the picture in picture effect? I haven’t tried it yet, but I imagine you could bake a quicktime then export a matte based on the PIP. Tracking would work too.

Once you add the matte you can access input/output controls for it along with a couple other things. That should give you a bit more control over the grain intensity.

I have a Cinemaquest Ideal Lume hooked up to my Panasonic(G25) too and the thing looks killer. The blacks are incredible and the W/B pro settings are great to have at your finger tips.

I haven’t tried it yet, but with all the node options available, I think you could “correct in” basic grain using a matte created in After Effects or the compositing/VFX application of your choice.
