Hi guys, i’m pleased to report that Resolve users can now download the 7.0.2 update at https://www.blackmagic-design.com/support/software/ and it includes support for 8-bit monitoring to provide real-time HD playback on 2008 Mac Pros, additional remote grading features including grab/select/delete stills and hide/show window cursors and full support for REDlog Film gamma.

Further information about the latest software is available in the individual Readme files for Mac OS X and Linux.

May I ask technically what it mean support 8 bit monitoring to provide realtime performance on 2008 macpro?…I thought that the diff between 2008 and 2009 was about the CPU power ,fatter ram etc ..
So now have the same performance?
    Thanks

The issue on the 2008 Mac Pros is memory and system bus bandwidth rather than raw CPU power, I think. (Most processing happens on the GPU anyway.) The 2008 models are right on the cusp of being able to do real-time 1080p — we’re seeing something like 21-22 fps on ours. Going 8-bit means there’s 20% less data to push around, which should do the trick. (And does do the trick, in my testing to far.)

    Are 2008’s now compatible?

Haven’t tried the update yet, but we’re getting the same 21-22fps on our 2008 with two monitors connected. With just one monitor it’s borderline 23-24fps with even the occasional flash of green. We also have 8GB RAM, 2x2GB in each channel. Using dimm slots 3 & 4 can have a small performance hit as well.

But how is your data transfered to the video monitors? Is it internal software RAID or external and hardware?

What does “additional remote grading features including grab/select/delete stills” functionality mean?

Is this programming for the Wave, or the Resolve panel, or?

No this is part of remote grading functionality of Reslove (notice the change in spelling). If systems have the same media resolve passes back and forth application data making remote grading possible.

Connected to a Terrablock SAN with fibrechannel in slot 4. The media was 10-bit uncompressed 1920×1080 quicktime.

Guys i am so sorry but i quite did not get the” 8 bit realtime on the 2008 Macro ” thing…

is related to the Red R3D + RedRocket (that now offer 8 Bit as an option?) or is 8 bit even for DPX etc…

    Thanks
