I use my flat screen samsung TV as a monitor (full HD) and a secondary flat screen computer monitor as a TV playback monitor via a HDMI cable. Works fine but beware that uncalibrated monitors are not the best in terms of colour control. Nothing beats a proper hi resolution colour corrected video monitor for judging colour.
The poblem I find with colour calibration is that a visual check is not accurate you need to calibrate with a device such as an Xrite colorimeter.
Good luck

Hi John
I lowered my ram preview as you have suggested however I checked your old posts where you discussed about using dslr footage such as 7d and 5d footage and I realised what the issue was.
I am trying to render hi quality at 32 bit foating both P2 footage and DSLR footage on 64 bit win 7 system. Captured footage is both HDV and full HD mixed together on the same time line and about 3 hours long.
i bought and installed vegas 10 and it handles DSLR so much better in fact I am kicking myself for not using the latest version earlier. As far as I can tell Ver 10 64 bit is heaps better for DSLR footage.
I have rendered out Pal 16X9 that took 1 hour and then SONY AVC (H264) that took about 8 hours and crashed towards the end of the timeline.
I will try High Quality renders at 32 bit floating full range and let you know how I go.
Thanks for all your help and support.
Cheers

Thanx John for picking this up,
the settings I am using for virtual memory are as follows,
Control panel/Sytem and security/system/advanced system setting/advanced tab/virtaul memory setting (mine is set to 12Gigs)
I have managed to render my P2 footage only as an avi (720 X576 – 16X9) cannot render at 32 bit floating to MPEG 2 or Sony MXF format or any other HD setting, keeps telling me I am out of memory??
Unfortunately at the 8 bit setting (project properties) the colours and image quality looks dreadful.
Thanx again

Yes John thanks for that
I have had a nightmare trying to run Vegas 9.0d 32 bit on my 64 bit win 7 machine.
I finally realised and loaded 9.0e 64 bit NOT 32 bit as i did initially and now seems things are getting back to normal however my project transitioned from 8.0c 32 bit to 9.0e 64 bit and suffered some loss with standard video (720X576 pal) that I had on the timeline along with full HD footage. What happened with some of this SD footage is that on import Vegas does not see video stream so I only get audio which is totally useless.
I complained to sony in a big way and waiting for response. Thanks to the forum I sorted it out.
