    Hello people

Late last year I shot some P2 footage on the SONY HVR-V1 24P Camera. Camera was set to native resolution 1440 X 1080 etc. During editing if I set my project properties to 32 bit floating full level at gamma 2.222 I seem to get the best colour and picture quality rather then say at 8bit.

my question is I keep getting memory low on my PC when I try and render to MPEG2 or MXF file output spec, Why is this???

My virtual memory is set to max (12 gigs) Ram, Quad core i7 920 at 3.6 Gighz, project set to full HD 1920X1080P to accomadate 7D footage. I have heaps of ram whey am I still getting this low memory when I try and render at full 32 bit quality????

    Thanx

[ibrahim mehmet] “My virtual memory is set to max (12 gigs) Ram”

Where are you setting this? I’m not sure what you are referring to.

Thanx John for picking this up,

the settings I am using for virtual memory are as follows,

Control panel/Sytem and security/system/advanced system setting/advanced tab/virtaul memory setting (mine is set to 12Gigs)

I have managed to render my P2 footage only as an avi (720 X576 – 16X9) cannot render at 32 bit floating to MPEG 2 or Sony MXF format or any other HD setting, keeps telling me I am out of memory??

Unfortunately at the 8 bit setting (project properties) the colours and image quality looks dreadful.

    Thanx again

OK, that’s swap file memory. I got it.

What do you have your RAM Preview memory set to? Look in Options | Preferences… | Video and make sure that Dynamic RAM Preview max (MB) is not set too high (I would keep it around 256 when rendering)

I play around with the preview memory usually around 1000, will try 256 as you suggest and get back to you.

    Thanks

    Hi John

I lowered my ram preview as you have suggested however I checked your old posts where you discussed about using dslr footage such as 7d and 5d footage and I realised what the issue was.

I am trying to render hi quality at 32 bit foating both P2 footage and DSLR footage on 64 bit win 7 system. Captured footage is both HDV and full HD mixed together on the same time line and about 3 hours long.

i bought and installed vegas 10 and it handles DSLR so much better in fact I am kicking myself for not using the latest version earlier. As far as I can tell Ver 10 64 bit is heaps better for DSLR footage.

I have rendered out Pal 16X9 that took 1 hour and then SONY AVC (H264) that took about 8 hours and crashed towards the end of the timeline.

I will try High Quality renders at 32 bit floating full range and let you know how I go.

Thanks for all your help and support.

    Cheers
