3D and animation software
Posted by Ibrahim Mehmet on September 2, 2012 at 5:26 amHi
I was hoping if anyone would have any suggestions about good 3D animation software that can be used with Vegas or without. I am not very good with 3D animation and was hoping to find a more self intuitive type of design that anyone can use?????
cheers

September 2, 2012 at 10:21 amNo matter which way you cut it Ibrahim, 3D Animation
isnt easy, it takes time to learn and finding a self
intuitive type of design that anyone can use is not
gonna impress much of your viewers given today’s standards. So i would recommend for you to try out Blender (its free and
almost can do what the big boys does). But if you are
serious about the art, 3D Studio Max or Maya is the way to go.
Did i mentioned that 3D Animation is not easy?Steve Rhoden

September 2, 2012 at 2:02 pmI have played around with 3D animation and Steve is right, it takes an investment in your time but there are a few product Steve didn’t mention that could help a lot and really are easy to use:
DAZ Studio is FREE and easy to use. It’s a lot like Poser (which IMHO has lost it’s way). You load a character onto the stage, set a keyframe on the timeline, move the character a bit and set another keyframe further down the timeline, and the character moves from the first position to the second with fluid motion. Export as a PNG sequence and drop it in Vegas. There are tons of tutorials to get you up and running quickly. There is also lots of content you can buy to animate. They make their money on the content not the program.
iClone 5 is not free but it’s worth every penny. Like DAZ Studio you drop a character into a scene and manipulate their movements by setting keyframes on a timeline but it also has extremely sophisticated pre-programmed movements. For example, you can drop a person and a car into the scene and then command the person to open the car door and the animation is automatically inserted into the timeline for you. This is very, very powerful and allows you to actually be the “director” of these characters. Something to check out (at least watch the tutorials to see how it works)
The difference between learning DAZ Studio/iClone and Blender/3D Max/Maya is like asking to build a house: DAZ Studio/iClone is like starting with a pre-fabricated house. You seal the two halves together, hook up the water and electric and you are good to go. Blender/3D Max/Maya is like going to the lumber yard to buy 2×4’s for framing and pipes for plumbing and wire for the electric and doing it all yourself. The former takes a few weeks while the latter takes a few months.

September 2, 2012 at 2:18 pmYou’re welcome. 3D is a whole different world than video editing so be prepared to spend some time in it learning your way around. Good luck.
