That’s not quite accurate. Apologies if someone at Sony told you that. The cutoff is 1.05 for the EX3 and 1.13 for the EX1. If your EX3 is at 1.05 the support team can send you a download link. Again, you do NOT have to send the camera in if it is currently at 1.05. Call the US Support line at 800 883 6817 (ops 2/5/2) and they will provide the firmware.

December 9, 2011 at 8:27 pm in reply to: Missing/Corrupted footage on SxS card…

25 minutes is too long for one file. SxS cards have a 4 GB file size limit which maxes out at roughly 15 mins. This must be a spanned clip (a clip made up of multiple mp4s). Do you see identical clip names followed by “01” and “02”?

Are you able to view or manually import the files using Clip Browser or XDCAM Browser? Both of these have a manual import function that will take any “raw” EX .mp4 and rebuild all the related metadata. If you can import the file(s) and build a new BPAV you should be ok. If these apps error out on a manual import the file may be damaged and require more work to recover.

Also please make sure all your apps are current– XDCAM Transfer 2.13, XDCAM Browser 2.0, Clip Browser 2.6. All the software is available at https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads

Finally, does the clip play back correctly in the camera?

    Hope this is helpful.

This can be done but it requires the Main Concept encoder suite. Premiere does not natively support exporting to EX

This can be done but it requires the Main Concept codec suite. Premiere does not natively support exporting back to XDCAM EX.

yes, the CRC function should work on any copy operation if enabled.

You’d need to use Avid or Premiere or a separate transcoding application to create the MOVs on a Windows based system. On the Mac you can use our XDCAM Transfer or XDCAM Browser software to rewrap the MXFs to MOV in the native XD codec. Note that any non-MXF files you need to store on the XD disc have to be placed in the User Data folder. The other folders are restricted.

Here is a round up of some data rate/storage calculators.

    https://provideocoalition.com/index.php/ssimmons/story/video_storage_space_calculators_round_up/

Keep in mind you are going from 35 Mbps to roughly 220 Mbps so the storage requirements will be around 6.3x the capacity your EX footage requires.

It’s XDCAM EX. If you don’t have the complete directory structure you can use Clip Browser or XDCAM Browser to view the files and rebuild the card image.

October 27, 2011 at 5:31 pm in reply to: NXCAM NX5U and FCP 7 L&T keeps crashing

ClipWrap is solid because it’s rewrapping (or transcoding) and presenting FCP with everything it needs to decode the file. While I agree that it would be nice to have an XDCAM Transfer-style app for FCP, almost every instance I’ve seen involving crashes has occurred with long files points to memory allocation. While a Sony re-wrapper would be a nice amenity it would not address the (likely) underlying issue. I believe FCP10 has built in .mov re-wrapping for AVCHD and is also able to take advantage of more than 4 GB of memory.

their player may be reversing the field order and trying to play it back lower field first. this is a common cause of jittery/fuzzy playback. that’s my best guess at any rate. Vegas does very clean encodes and i have not seen this on any of our AVC/264 renders..
