Any idea how this happened? It’s beyond unusual for files to simply disappear. Was anything accidentally moved to the trash and then restored? If you’re sure of what you’re seeing the Sony Media Services group may be able to help, but if there are no .mp4s the prognosis is not good.. I’d call the US tech support group first to make sure nothing else can be done– 800 883 6817. If you want to post some screenshots of what you’re seeing in Finder vs what you’re seeing in your recovery software I may be able to offer more suggestions..

Make sure you’re using v 2.13– https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads

Has the BPAV folder or any of its contents been modified? Moving or renaming files will cause them to be out of symc with the XML file that keeps track of the contents. First make sure that in Finder you see Folder Name/BPAV/CLPR with numbered folders inside CLPR, each one containing 5 files (.mp4 plus metadata files). Also try manually importing the .mp4 in XDCAM Browser (replaces Clip Browser, also at the link above); this will generate new metadata for the clip and place it in its own BPAV..

2.12 is not supported and doesn’t work properly under Lion. You should upgrade to 2.13. You can find it under Applications–>Legacy Applications at https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads

There’s no setting that would affect this with SxS. It’s probably a conflict with the PCI card. Try removing/reinstalling and reloading the driver. Otherwise take a look in the Activity Monitor to confirm where the system resources are being eaten up.. Also make sure that you have the latest version of the SxS driver and see if you can get any compatibility info from the manufacturer of the card..

lol, yes, it would be nice if everyone used the same system…FCP reads out the data rate in MegaBYTES per second while most video data rates are expressed in terms of MegaBITS per second. A bit is one data character, a byte is 8, so when you see data rates that low (or ‘MB’ instead of ‘Mb’) typically you just multiply the # by 8..

this comes up CONSTANTLY with XDCAM VBR codecs; it’s probably in the top 25 support questions our team gets. “why is my data rate only 4 Mb per second!?!”

There are also numerous undisclosed or undocumented bug fixes with each release, all of which improve the stability and reliability of the camcorder (which is running over a million lines of code). We cannot stress enough that it is best practice to keep your camcorder up to date. After you are safely past 1.05 you’ll be able to execute future upgrades quickly and painlessly without having to send the camcorder in. We are fully aware that sending the cameras in is a hassle but the 1 and the 3 were not meant to be user-upgradeable when they were first designed and with this new capability came a few basic conditions we simply have to follow. Additionally, some of the upgrades need to be followed by hardware alignments, lens adjustments etc.

The symptom (especially the 79% formatting) sounds like firmware but a 16 GB SxS pro is an old card and should work fine in any EX hardware. Try reformatting in the camera (Others menu–>Format Media–>Select the A or B slot), recording and transferring a few clips and see if the problem resurfaces. If possible view the clips in the latest version of XDCAM Browser (https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads)and look for any corrupt clip warnings or loss of video/data.

I’m pretty certain there’s nothing out there that will accomplish this without an intermediate step. You’re best off rewrapping to .mov with Transfer/Browser and then using Compressor or Media Manager to batch convert to ProRes.

You can use XDCAM Transfer or XDCAM Browser (Sony FCP import plug-ins) to re-wrap to .mov in the native EX codec, then convert using Compressor, Episode or any other encoder. None of the Sony plugins, including the FCP Log and Transfer add-on, transcode on import. They rewrap to .movs in the XD codecs which FCP decodes/encodes natively. XDCAM Browser can up-convert EX to XDCAM HD 422 50 Mb if need be, but this is a demo feature of the software until a serial # is purchased..

Not entirely what you are asking but there is a lot of confusion out there re what the Sony plugins do and don’t do so I thought this might help preempt any time wasted trying to create Pro Res files on import..
