can you rewrap into FCP and then re-export a new .mp4?

Does the file behave normally when in the camera? I.E. can it be played back from beginning to end?

The Log and Transfer plugin is for EX/FAT recordings only. It’s also discontinued. You can use XDCAM Browser ro Contenct Browser to rewrap these to .mov on import.

Just for the record, this is inaccurate. As we now know, the camera does a secure overwrite of the data when you format (as opposed to a ‘quick’ format where only the allocation table is deleted…this is how XDCAM optical discs work). It does this for performance reasons, so it can write data faster to the optimal memory locations on the card. It is NOT POSSIBLE to recover files from a card formatted in the camera.
If the card is accidentally formatted in a computer, it may still be recoverable. If this happens, call the # in the earlier post and speak to our Media team. They are awesome and can generally turn cards around very quickly.

If you’re using an EX camcorder (and not a hybrid model like the PMW-200 or PMW-500) you do not need any drivers. The camcorder and card readers are class compliant USB devices and the cards are Fat32. You only need drivers of you are working in UDF mode and /or if you are accessing the cards using the built in Express card slot on a laptop.
Is the card that was forcibly ejected still read by the camera? Do other readers and peripherals still work on that USB port? Forcibly ejecting the card is more likely to damage the data on the card than to ‘break’ the reader. Does it show up in System Profiler as a USB device and go through it’s connection routine (‘Connecting’ on the LCD…)?

The danger of skipping 1.04 and 1.05 on the way to later versions isn’t necessarily that the camera will become inoperable but that you are skipping service patch releases whose contents are not part of the later user-installable updates. So those particular bug fixes etc are not loaded when you skip these early dot releases. The camera was not meant to be user upgradeable in the beginning which is one of the reasons we have to do it in steps on the bench (followed by a flange back adjustment) for cameras below 1.05. Admittedly many of these patches are for bugs that the average user will never run into but it’s still best practice to follow the factory recommendations.
