Check the file naming settings in menu O-28 and make sure they are set to FREE. If set to Cxxx.mxf you can only use the canonical file names.

January 7, 2013 at 8:33 pm in reply to: Sony EX-1 Workflow with Premiere Pro CS6

The renaming workflow you had was only really possible because you were working with the rewrapped .movs that existed outside the BPAV. Unfortunately no NLE supports batch renaming of XDCAM EX prior to import. I would take a quick look at the new ‘Prelude’ logging/ingest app in CS6; this may have the capability of renaming prior to import.

Also just as a general FYI, if you import using the built-in media browser you’ll see all your clips in one place without having to drill down into the clip folders. Just make sure you set the format selector to ‘XDCAM EX.’ The media browser will also automatically handle the concatenation of any spanned files.

If you install a QT plugin for EX (like Calibrated’s ‘XD-Decode’) you should be able to work with the rewrapped .movs from transfer in PPro but of course you then lose the immediate access you get in Premiere..

Double check Operation Menu–>Input and Output–>SDI/HDMI Out Super. This is the setting to enable/disable to toggle character output (as configured in the separate “Super Impose” menu).

Just checking in to see how it’s going? Let me know if we still need to try and figure out a workaround. Been offline for a few days.. Can’t tell from the above if the FCP re-wrap worked.

December 17, 2012 at 7:23 pm in reply to: How Can I Only Proxy Files?

You can use VLC to view the proxies. Proxies can only be viewed in XDCAM Browser or Content Browser if you have a whole disc image copied from/recorded to a USB thumb drive from the camera. Or, if they are running Windows, they can download either PDZ1 (which comes bundled with a standalone proxy viewer) or the VX10 .mxf viewer, which plays both hi-res and proxy. https://www.sony.com/xdcam-downloads . Note that they are discontinued and will be found under ‘Legacy Applications.’ They are qualified up through W7.

thanks, this is helpful– are you starting from files of the same codec (not required; I just need to know in case I have trouble duplicating the error)? i will take a look at this right away..

I think something might have gotten broken in the latest update. I am seeing the 16 bit error as well and the QT inspector for the .mov is telling me that all my files are being exported with 24 bit audio. I see no way to change this in the Export settings. I will continue to look into this. Can I ask what you did differently when you got the above error?

Can you let me know what format you are trying to export (e.g. HQ 35, 1080 60i, .mp4 file)?

no, we’re hoping that the re-wrap into FCP succeeds and that we can then export a new file. if this works it will put a loose .mp4 on the root of CLPR. in the OTHERS menu on the camera, select CLIP–>UPDATE to register the new file and create the metadata.
