April 28, 2009 at 2:21 am in reply to: Keyframes In Wrong Position After Copy to a Different SequenceHi John,
I’m hoping to find a way to copy and paste the attributes from a series of clips on one video track > to a single clip of the same length, on a different video track.
So the attributes will be in the same place there in that clip, as they were in the multiple clips of the other video track.
Is there a way to do this ?
Thanks much for your help !

hmmm….. interesting.
So you have a huge timeline that needs rendering…. you set the 1st instance of FCP to render the front, set the 2nd instance to render the back end? And then “reconnect media” to the render files to get it all back together?
______Hi Aaron,
What would be the best way to “reconnect media” to put that all together ?
Thanks !

April 26, 2009 at 9:53 am in reply to: Keyframes In Wrong Position After Copy to a Different SequenceHI John,
Sorry to be so long responding to your helpful posting,
it’s been a difficult time.At this point for this project, I will need to continue with my mixed time base clips in one sequence.
Due to time constraints. The bad news is: the Rendering time . . .
Having 23.98 and 29.97 clips across those 7 video tracks.
I should say at this point, my former problems with transferring Keyframe data between the 23.98 Sequence and the 29.97 Sequence has been worked around, by-
Exporting that 23.98 Sequence to Quicktime, best quality, no compression.
And then Importing it into the 29.97 Sequence, for further editing. The good news is:
It works.
Final Cut Renders the 23.98 and the 29.97 mix of clips,
with their myriad keyframe edits in both . . .And it works within Final Cut.
And, for Exporting to Quicktime (compressed or not).I will certainly be more careful the next time I set up a multi-time base project,
to determine and maintain a common time format.Additionally, at this point-
I’d be really happy to learn of a way to copy the Keyframes (Motion and Filter) from a series of clips on a single Video track, and then Paste them onto the clip on a different Video track. So that they appear in exactly the same location along the timeline, even though their actual clips begin at different times.
This is data transfer is very simple to do in the audio editing apps that I’d accustomed to using-
But I haven’t discovered it in Final Cut yet . . .Thanks again for your help !

April 24, 2009 at 10:03 am in reply to: Keyframes In Wrong Position After Copy to a Different SequenceHi Dennis,
Thanks very much for your response.
Your response has been helpful in finding the reason for my problem.
The “two sequence project” was Frame rate 23.98,
and the “one sequence project” is Frame rate 29.97.It seems that there is no translation possible between those formats in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.
The Keyframes from one format will not Copy to the other in the proper locations, relative to the clips being Copied and Pasted, even thought the clips themselves seem to be aligned properly. (Huh ?)
I tried it both ways.
From 23.98 to 29.97, and from 29.97 to 23.98.I assumed there would be a translation function between the formats, but that does not appear to be the case.
As a workaround,
And to Avoid Nesting so many items . . .I’ve created a Quicktime file of the entire 23.98 sequence,
and Dragged it into the 29.97 sequence.I’ll cut out the parts I need of the 23.98 sequence,
and edit them into the 29.97 sequence. If anyone is aware of this being ill-advised,
Or has a better way to go about this-
I’d be happy to know it right away . . .This forum has been very helpful to me.
Thanks very much Dennis for your help !

I don’t know why this would be happening. Do the sequences have the exact same settings. Rather than copy/paste have you tried duplicating your sequence? If that would leave you with a lot of extraneous material, duplicate it once, remove the extra material, and then duplicate the sequence with just the 7/4 tracks as many times as you need.

I’ve had to spend this day out of town on an emergency, and will not be back in the studio to give you more information on what you have suggested until tonight. 4/22
There has been a development since I posted my question.
In my experiences currently:
I have two sequences in one project, and one sequence in another project.
Originally, had both projects open at the same time, and-
I was trying to copy a Segment from the “two sequences project” to the “one sequence project”.In that situation, almost none of the Keyframes were Pasting across from the Copy.
Then (to experiment),
I tried to Paste the Segment from one of the “two sequences project” to the other sequence of the “two sequences project”.In that situation, it seemed like all of the Keyframes Copied across, but-
They were offset, to the wrong position (later and not useful in that situation).I have no idea why that is the case.
Or how to get them to Paste into the same position they are in the Copied segment.Or even how to uniformly move the Keyframes within the Segment to put them in the correct position.
Thanks again for your help, and I welcome all thoughts and comments on my problem.
I will put all the info I can gather into effect later tonight, back at the studio.

Trouble capturing from XL-2 to FCP6
by Jim Black on Feb 28, 2008 at 5:52:52 pmHi to all,
I’ve recently jumped up from FCExpress 2 to FCP6. Using my Canon XL-2 as player has worked until today. FCP controls camera and shows TC, but no video in capture window. FCP sez there’s no video when I try to capture.I tested Firewire cable with old laptop with FCE 2 and worked fine. Any ideas????
Easy Setup is on DV-NTSC; switching to DV Firewire Basic doesn’t help.
THANKS!!
________Hi Jim,
I have the exact same problem today with my DVX100A.
What was your solution to this problem ?
Thanks !

User Name: Steven GonzalesThe 24pA (advanced) writes 24 frames across 30 frames by writing fields at a 2-3-3-2 pattern. The reverse telecine in cinema tools undoes the result of telecine by changed 30 frames to 24 based on a 2-3-2-3 field pattern.
The tool to deal with the 24pA format is not Cinema Tools, it is the “remove advanced pulldown” feature within Final Cut. To get info on this, go to the user manual in FCP (under help menu) and search on “remove advanced pulldown”.
Hi Steven,
Thanks for your response.
I’m sending you this response, even though so far-
I didn’t have time to do much studying on this process, but in my testing of it,
My results were of significantly lesser quality,
than the Cinema Tools process I described,
and used previously. Many if not most of the files, that I’m working with, have starting Timecodes that are not Zero.
I’m not sure if that is a part of the issue in this situation. Here’s a description of my Capture Process from the DVX100a:
(Every clip has a Timecode dead area around it,
where the DVX100a camera monitor just sits still,
locked on a blue screen at the same Timecode position,
then it picks up again, with it’s timecode position advanced to the next location,
when the next film clip is arrived at, on the camera’s VCR tape.Final Cut Pro’s Capture Now setting did a brilliant job of jockying the camera VCR around to catch the absolute beginning of available footage of each filmed section from the camera, through it’s remote control of the camera VCR.
It captured each clip, beginning to end of the taped selections, creating a new clip for each of them. I just sat back and watched in all happening. From the beginning to the end of that process.
The result was, again, that the A frames of the telecine were mostly not on Zeroes.
That’s an important adjustment that I had to make in Cinema Tools,
in my previously described procedures.)In my limited testing of the Final Cut Tools-
The Remove Advanced Pulldown in the Tools Menu had this error message:File does not contain Frames encoded using Advanced Pulldown.
In either the 30 fps version of the file,
or the 24 fps version of the file,
that was created
After accomplishing the Cinema Tools Reverse Telecine process, under that same menu. Also, there is no prompt to create a New File,
and there is no Undo for the process.
So it seems to have wiped out the original file in the process. This process resulted in an image that still showed significant jaggedy interleaving artifacts.
I’d be happy to learn more about this function within Final Cut Pro.
It would be better if it’s possible to accomplish these processes more simply within Final Cut,
Without pulling up Cinema Tools.Thank you very much for taking the time to think about this for me !
I look forward to any and all further information !Howard Ferguson

January 23, 2009 at 9:06 am in reply to: Quicktime Movies Not Playing Back Properly in Final Cut ProHi Noah,
I have found the solution to this problem I presented.
Sorry, I didn’t realize that a computer monitor cannot support these images accurately.
https://library.creativecow.net/articles/ross_shane/fcp_faq.php
I had a Canopus ADVC-110 sitting right here.
Plugged it up to the TV,
and the images appeared fine.Is there a way to have all these images from Final Cut accurately displayed on a computer monitor ?
I’ve got a lot of more of them around than TVs . . .Sorry to have bothered you with this, but I would appreciate your further thoughts.
Your help is much appreciated !
