Keyframes In Wrong Position After Copy to a Different Sequence
Posted by Howard Ferguson on April 22, 2009 at 8:09 amHi,
I’m trying to copy a section of tracks (7 video, 4 audio) from one sequence, into a different sequence.
The Video and Audio clips are showing up properly aligned after the Paste, but-
The Keyframes in the Copied section are not Pasting into the correct positions within their respective clips,
within the newly Pasted segments,
of the new Sequence. All help gratefully welcome !
(I need to do this about 30 times, so Nesting is not an option . . . )
Thanks,
Howard Ferguson

April 22, 2009 at 3:08 pmif you move less tracks at once, do the keyframes stay intact? If not, can you copy one clip, paste into the new sequence, and then right click, paste attributes, basic motion. The center/scale/rotation information should be pasted to the new clip.

April 22, 2009 at 10:34 pmThanks for your response Dennis !
I’ve had to spend this day out of town on an emergency, and will not be back in the studio to give you more information on what you have suggested until tonight. 4/22
There has been a development since I posted my question.
In my experiences currently:
I have two sequences in one project, and one sequence in another project.
Originally, had both projects open at the same time, and-
I was trying to copy a Segment from the “two sequences project” to the “one sequence project”.In that situation, almost none of the Keyframes were Pasting across from the Copy.
Then (to experiment),
I tried to Paste the Segment from one of the “two sequences project” to the other sequence of the “two sequences project”.In that situation, it seemed like all of the Keyframes Copied across, but-
They were offset, to the wrong position (later and not useful in that situation).I have no idea why that is the case.
Or how to get them to Paste into the same position they are in the Copied segment.Or even how to uniformly move the Keyframes within the Segment to put them in the correct position.
Thanks again for your help, and I welcome all thoughts and comments on my problem.
I will put all the info I can gather into effect later tonight, back at the studio.

Unfortunately, all of this comes at a bad time, with a deadline coming up fast.
If I’m not successful, is anyone aware of a Final Cut Pro Expert Help Phone Line ? -

April 23, 2009 at 4:40 pmI’m still not sure why keyframes are moving when you paste. Are they still where they need to be in the footage, only the footage has slipped a few frames/seconds?
I know you said originally that nesting isn’t an option, but maybe it’s worth a shot, at least to test/workaround. Here’s what I’d do.
Duplicate your sequence, and name the dupe to *name*-nested.
Highlight a section that needs to be moved, and go to Sequence / Nest. You may need to cut off some layers via in/out or razor tool (my preference)…don’t worry about that, things will realign in the end. A new sequence should appear in your browser, and those clips you had highlighted should be consolidated on your timeline. Rename the new sequence in you browser to ID it.
Open the new sequence on the timeline and play it back. Are the keyframes still in the right position. If yes, good. In the sequence that needs the material moved to, drag the nested sequence from the browser to the destination timeline. Again check the playback. Still good? if yes, rinse and repeat.

April 24, 2009 at 10:03 amHi Dennis,
Thanks very much for your response.
Your response has been helpful in finding the reason for my problem.
The “two sequence project” was Frame rate 23.98,
and the “one sequence project” is Frame rate 29.97.It seems that there is no translation possible between those formats in Final Cut Pro 5.1.4.
The Keyframes from one format will not Copy to the other in the proper locations, relative to the clips being Copied and Pasted, even thought the clips themselves seem to be aligned properly. (Huh ?)
I tried it both ways.
From 23.98 to 29.97, and from 29.97 to 23.98.I assumed there would be a translation function between the formats, but that does not appear to be the case.
As a workaround,
And to Avoid Nesting so many items . . .I’ve created a Quicktime file of the entire 23.98 sequence,
and Dragged it into the 29.97 sequence.I’ll cut out the parts I need of the 23.98 sequence,
and edit them into the 29.97 sequence. If anyone is aware of this being ill-advised,
Or has a better way to go about this-
I’d be happy to know it right away . . .This forum has been very helpful to me.
Thanks very much Dennis for your help !
