Hi Dave…..the guy from Cedar Rapids
Very nice to hear from you. Thank you for writing.
Hope all is well there in beautiful Iowa. Calm weather.[Dave LaRonde] “Your render times could be just fine. Hard to tell with what we know. I think they’re OK.
It’s the frame rate conversion that concerns me. I’d do the whole thing at 29.97….. I REPEAT, 29.97… those fractions are important… and nest it it in a 25 fps comp. Both frame rates are comfy with 1920×1080.”
Makes me feel alot better. Ok, thanks.
Yes, ok, will render at the 29.97 – that IS what the comp actually is….you are right. Then after will put in a PAL 25 fps comp and re-render for final output to the Web Serving Box, that the video dept uses.
Otherwise the NTSC is fine for youtube and fb, of course.
Thanks heaps, always fun to hear from you.
Warmly,

Hi
The 1920 HD comp is ntsc at 29fps but i need PAL at 25fps. After I render the whole thing in 29, then just re-render in 25 Pal?
Would that be best?In the end it is compressed to mpeg2 then compressed again on the web channel when they upload to their ‘box’ that streams.
Here are a few memory readings from the iMac’s Activity Monitor during the 12 frame render: Does it seem right?
Was a bit faster w multi-processing turned on. I had it turned off before as was crashing my work in AE, but in rendering 1 second, it did not crash.
Took about 1min. 45s for the 12 frames to render – about 8s per frame w multi-processing on and about 10 sec wo it.
What do you think?
Warmly,

Thank you for this….what a kind and good person!
Ok, so a month later I respond…..wow…just so you know I have been thinking I need to get back to you. It is been in the back of my mind all this time.
What you said has really helped.Everything worked out really well after this thread.
Thank you![Dave LaRonde] “Hope you liked Fairfield — It reminds me a lot of Mount Pleasant, one of my favorite towns. Fairfield has a really pretty town square, and the area around it is nifty, too. Good places to eat — there’s a cafe in the area that has a great tenderloin, and I’m a sucker for a good tenderloin. Maharishi U…. well, it’s interesting, too.”
Yes, completely charming, I agree. I am from LA originally, so it was quite a change. They say the place has more restaurants per capita than San Francisco. hee hee
Have taken some classes at the Maharishi university…lol. Am a TMer from way back…smile…
Question, if you dont mind:
1. DVD Burning: will burning a movie: a square pixeled Photo Jpeg 1024×576 be the same viewing from the dvd as the 720×576 anamorphic mpeg2?2. why mpeg2 for dvd? Does it really matter what codec, or the dvd turns movies into mpeg2, so why not just add in that format?
3. Toast or other burning options compresses the videos so no longer clear. Yes?
DVD player:
-I realized the DVD player was set to SD, so changed the settings to 16.9 in the set up options of the player. (but who else, when playing the dvd would do that?-Most dvd players are set to 4.3 whatever it is called? and NOT 16.9, yes?
What do you think?
Warmly,
Hopebtw, did you have a nice Halloween….hee hee

September 1, 2016 at 12:16 am in reply to: action safe area very small on presentation TVHi Dave….
Thank you for this….I lived in Iowa for 6 yrs….Fairfield.
You have helped me before, thank u for this again.Ok, well that is VERY good to know.
720×576 @ 25fps : so this size is 5.4 ratio, whereas the one i made was 16.9
and according to this schematic, if it is accurate:
The only area that was seen, I am pretty sure, is the gold 4.3 Action Safe area.
So if I do want the widescreen proportions, for a normal DVD, which you are indicating is 5.4, then one has to letterbox the 16.9 in that 5.4 space? Or redo the movie to be 5.4.
In Toast, an old version, i burned a ‘video dvd’ and formated it nicely w one button, to make it simple to play at this presentation.
Standard digital, is partly what I had done – smile- …but it is ‘widescreen’ SD : 1024×576 @25fps (Pal)
So you are saying, I guess, in terminology I am used to, that DVDs don’t show / play widescreen by default?
Our in house DVD player, one can, if going into the settings, change the settings to 16.9. and the TV too. But it is not simple to do. One has to call up the menus in both and go there and change.
What do you think?
Thanks so much, again.Warmly,

Hi Mariusz
Quite Nice….I am not a film editor. Ido motion graphics, but to me it looks nice.Love so many variety of things he is doing and how you cut to a real soccer match, etc, and the line appearing.
quite clever. One can definitely tell you cherish this son….so much time when it to edit all these zillion of clips and slow mo….nice
Keeps the interest with the quick changes. It would be nice if instagram gave the play slider, so one can choose where to watch and see the duration of the film.
You made this all in AE? imported all the clips in?Is it easier to something like this in FCP? then one can actually see the clips one is working on?
The color is overall, is little of the blue side. but as his outfit is blue, maybe you did it on purpose….for me, I tend to be prejudiced toward warm tints in film….cheery I find.
Good work….
Have a great day…and your son obviously adores you. Your attention gives him tons of energy….wow.Warmly,

January 9, 2016 at 2:34 am in reply to: How much to charge for a 5 second intro video?Hi….
Read this:
https://forums.creativecow.net/archivethread/2/261949
and
https://www.awn.com/forum/thread/1013057He says things like:
Animation Guild’s wage report – https://animationguild.org/contracts-wages/
And if clients balk at the price: remember that the cost of animation is often cited as being $10,000 per minute. That is $166 per second.
$50 a second is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheap.
Animation is considered to be a “silver-collar” job, with animators akin to airline pilots and astronauts in terms of the depth of their theoretical and practical training. You should be paid accordingly.
If they reject that, then your clients are cheapskates and cannot afford REAL animation.my 2 cents:
This is a very interesting question. Graphic designers (but you are an animator or motion graphics?) often charge what a plumber changes I’ve heard…which for your area…dont know the price.Well, how much do you usually charge per hour? How long will it take to make? They have seen the kind of intros you do?
You could call an animation studio or other pro animator or motion graphic experts / pros and pretend you are the client and tell them what you want. Call several, then you can compare prices. Be sure you know what you would be getting for the price. Bascially tell them you want something like you know you would create.
See what they offer for that price….in other words, find out what your competitors are doing and charging, then you can feel confident.
Is it an animated, or motion graphics into….like that, find out what the competition for similar thing would charge.
Alot of effect, lighting, 3d, etc?
Good Luck,
Warmly, Hope__________________________________________________
