  • How much to charge for a 5 second intro video?

Posted by Toto Red on January 8, 2016 at 8:00 pm

Hey guys! Quick question, how much should I charge for a custom intro made in after effect? 60fps, 1080p and good quality animation?

I don’t want to overcharge nor undercharge.

    Hi….

    Read this:
    https://forums.creativecow.net/archivethread/2/261949
    and
    https://www.awn.com/forum/thread/1013057

    He says things like:

    Animation Guild’s wage report – https://animationguild.org/contracts-wages/

And if clients balk at the price: remember that the cost of animation is often cited as being $10,000 per minute. That is $166 per second.

$50 a second is WAAAAAAAAAAAAY cheap.

Animation is considered to be a “silver-collar” job, with animators akin to airline pilots and astronauts in terms of the depth of their theoretical and practical training. You should be paid accordingly.
If they reject that, then your clients are cheapskates and cannot afford REAL animation.

    my 2 cents:
This is a very interesting question. Graphic designers (but you are an animator or motion graphics?) often charge what a plumber changes I’ve heard…which for your area…dont know the price.

Well, how much do you usually charge per hour? How long will it take to make? They have seen the kind of intros you do?

You could call an animation studio or other pro animator or motion graphic experts / pros and pretend you are the client and tell them what you want. Call several, then you can compare prices. Be sure you know what you would be getting for the price. Bascially tell them you want something like you know you would create.

See what they offer for that price….in other words, find out what your competitors are doing and charging, then you can feel confident.

Is it an animated, or motion graphics into….like that, find out what the competition for similar thing would charge.

Alot of effect, lighting, 3d, etc?

    Good Luck,
    Warmly, Hope

did you decide what to charge?

what kind of intro is it…did you show him a sample what you would do?

I’m just wondering for myself too….
