    Hi Walter….

    = What a dear…thanks for all this info….

= I am curious what naming convention you all use for this?
As a graphic artist, designer i am pretty visually oriented….LOL

= [Walter Soyka] “H.264/MP4 is supposed to be supported by AV Foundation, so I’m surprised to hear that this would happen, but again, I’m not yet running El Capitan so I cannot say for sure. Sorry!”

Ok, so mp4 that is the container for h.264 is suppose to be ok, but mp4 could be a container for other codecs….I guess.

your man above from links you give writes:

QuickLook struggles with .mp4 files. In particular, QuickLook on recent versions of OSX cannot preview a .mp4 file containing H.265-encoded video. Rename your .mp4 files as .m4v, or use another container for H.265 content – e.g. Matroska.
    Good to know…

On Mavericks, i dont have this problem w mp4

= In case anyone else wants to know this:

The links you kindly give above are for,
first link: Mac OS 10.10, and 10.11 and the
2nd link is for os 10.9

i went to the bottom of the page for the 2nd link and choose download, then
    I was on this page:

    https://github.com/Marginal/QLVideo/releases/tag/rel-184

I downloaded and installed this only (just dbl clicked the yellow install box that downloaded, didnt make a folder or go to the library like he mentions…it all just worked when installed):
    QLVideo_184.pkg

as soon as installed, the icons showed…hurray.

now i can see the qt icons as images instead of just qt….
    GREAT. FANTASTIC.!!!

it is not showing the real quick view and then the movie plays…but this is great….

    Thanks again…so appreciate…
    btw, i am in NY too…but upstate….
i see you do wide screen events…very very cool…and presentation design. Sounds really fun.

    Walter,

Thank you very much for this.

    1. I will check out the icon restore image links you gave.

I thot there must be something like this.

You dont have this issue as all your codecs are ok, so you never needed to use these quickview options? You can see the images of all your icons for movies?

    2. So you recommend Apple ProRes 4444. I have used that when i need transparency in an animation render, as it seems to create a file size smaller than the animation codec.

Normally we use photojpeg, which does show a nice image icon etc. However lately, for youtube have been using the mp4 codec.

    3. I do have some old artbeats movies that will convert when opening, but the conversion size goes from 4mb to 72mb….wow

    4. Is it true that in el capitan that even mp4 is not quick viewed or an image for the icon?….but then one could use this trick you mention?

    What do you think?
    Appreciate…

    Warmly,
    Hope

    Appreciate your input.

btw…if you were doing such a thing, how would u do it?

  • Hi John,

Again, thanks so much….very kind of you!!! I have been working on it.

Is there anyway to get the vertical flowers to ‘stick’ to the floor (grass) as one moves the camera thru the flowers, kind of following the butterfly?

    – Here is a pic of what I want…the butterfly to go thru the flowers w a backwall and a floor of grass.

    Ideal scene:

    – so far I have this..flowers are 2D layers but w 3d turned on, the background is 2D as you mentioned. the flowers move around on the grass when the camera angle changes…dont want that…lol

    – Another orbit of same scene

Also we have this kind of scene that I have constructed w the floor and back wall in 3d. As you see, the floor needs to be adjusted, but the flowers need to ‘stick’ to the floor as the camera moves around, or even thru it.

Or I suppose i could forget the floor and just do the same w out the floor… something that would like like this, but w the stems going out of the pic:

but would be nice to learn how to do this main idea of having it 3D w camera moving around….could be quite nice. I have a 3D butterfly I made.

    Ideal: camera follows the butterfly
2nd best: scene moves around a bit as butterfly flies thru the flowers
3rd best: no floor…only sky I guess, but camera is moving….that is all I seem to be able to do so far.

I have tried a static 3D scene, w just the butterfly moving around…basically it could be 2D…it looks like 2D…..not as interesting as when the camera is moving around:

none of these are really working or looking right.
    What do you think, suggest?

    Warmly,
    Hope

  • Hi Walter,

Thank you so much for your ideas….very kind of you to write all that out.

At this point it doesnt have to be realistic, was just going to use a photo of grass…HOWEVER….

I do have Form. Not the latest versionl It is version 2 from 2011. apply it to a 2D layer it cautions me…..is there a grass preset? I searched online for one
These are the presets I have: read below image too…

The main point for moi, is how to make the – 2D layers of flowers I have in a comp, in 3D space, – make them stick to a floor – how to add the floor and stick the flowers to them as the camera goes thru the 3D space.

Means: how to add a floor and backwall) which can just be a photo of grass and a photo of sky for now…..I can put in a sky movie later.
Just want the flowers to stick to the floor…dont know how to add a floor. and have a back wall that does not move as the camera comes thru the flowers at it is so far away.

    Thanks so much,
    Warmly,
    Hope

    Hi John

Thank you so much for your reply.
the tutorials I found…..thanks to you, by searching

I am using cs5.5….so a little out of date….guess the new ae has more tools for 3D.

am working in 16.9 SD 1024x576px

    Question:

Do you think I am doing this right?

This is the Right view. (realizing i may need to work in top view)

    camera:
set: Point of Interest, Position and Zoom.

Camera layer only has keyframes: this is where 1st set of these keyframes are

This is where the 2nd ending set of these same parameters are set. had the camera triangle, the red, that far out, in order to make sure the last image went fully out of the frame.

I was a little worred that there are images off / out of the viewport…the white checkdered area.
    what do you think?

I still need to add alot more pics.
one just makes precomps for each set of images like these 6? The sample video above must have about 100 layers they are touring the camera thru?

    Any thots?
    Thanks ever so much.

    Dear Mr. Mize,

I was just researching you and see that you have not posted on this forum for 2 years? Glad to see you back. I just tried your tutorial for 3D cube.
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fjh9Bl_-FD4

So amazing and fast to make.

The intro to this video is so beautifully animated. Making a tutorial for that would be great too.

I want to thank you so much for your great expertise and visual aesthetic….really lovely. Do you have a demo reel….would love to see it….

Thanks again Mr. Mize. You are very appreciated. Beautiful work.

    Warmly,
    Hope

PS. I congratulate you for plowing ahead into CC…. As you see, I am still back 4 yrs or more in technology.

Really, very nice of you. I so appreciate. I will have to read and digest this all. What a saint you are!!!

I did notice that you mentioned Frame Mix….is that different that the frame blending button in the the timeline, where one turns it on for a layer?
