Hi there,
Hopefully you can help. I’ve got a similar thing happening to me.Here are my Specs:
PowerPC G4 Dual Processor
Final Cut Pro 5.0
Mac OS X Version 10.4.83 Drives:
1. 500G Iomega External Hard-Drive
2. Macintosh Hard-Drive
3. Second Internal Hard-Drive (or so it appears)I recently had to replace my I-Mac G5 with a PowerMac G4 Dual Processor at work. I kept the External Iomega 500 Gig Harddrive and am trying to use it now with the G4.
When i try to capture video onto the External Iomega (which captured tons of video just fine with my G5), it immediately begins this jerky capture, and detects time-code breaks that aren’t really there. It plays back equally as jerky as well (frozen frames jumping to frozen frames once every 2 seconds or so).
When i switch the Capture Scratch disks to the Second Internal Hard-Drive, then it captures just fine. I only have 50 gigs of space on this second internal Hard-drive though, so I’d like to be able to use my Iomega External.
The basic Macintosh Hard-drive and the second internal Hard-drive were both formatted as Journaled before I even laid hands on the computer. The Iomega is not formatted as journaled.
Is this a related probem to the first question? Is there something about journaling or going from one Mac to another with an external drive?
Thanks,

I searched through the archive posts and my questions had already been answered before. I put my render settings on “Full”, and then I watched my sequence play on a tv monitor. Looks fine. I wonder why it looks so bad on Final Cut. Hmm…

Thank you, that’s good advice!

Thanks! I’ll see if that works!

Hi~
Thanks for the response. I already have my computer Energy Saver mode on. I have both the Display and the Hard Disks set to sleep after 1 hour. Plus under the Desktop/Screensaver I have it set to Screen-save after 15 Minutes.Could it be possible that my computer still thinks it’s “active” when the “Capture Now has reached the end of user specified time limit” window is on the screen?

(oops. I pushed Tab after typing in the subject on that last post. Note to self: don’t do that.)
Hi Everyone~
Thanks to those who posted advice. I will be telling them whether I’ll take the job or not on Friday.
I guess patience and persistance is the key to getting the job I want. If you all have more to offer on the last subject, or general advice on how to land jobs in making commercials, I’m all ears.
Thanks again!

I got a copy of AfterEffects 4.0. It’s one of the older versions. I also got the user’s manual for it. So I think i’m set! Thanks for the demo reel advice. I wonder sometimes about what I should include in the demo reel. I’ve worked on a film as the second camera. Should I include a clip from that movie when it gets edited? Also I’ve done camera work for some interviews. Should I include clips of those? Everything that I already have on my demo reel is stuff I’ve thought up, directed, photographed and edited myself because it was from school (including my independent study). Should I include this other more recent stuff even though it’s not quite as entertaining? (The film will be entertaining, but it’s just not edited yet.)

Awesome. Thanks for the advice and encouragement Seth. I’ve been re-energized!

Great! This is all really good advice and a lot of stuff I hadn’t considered. Please keep it coming. Another thing. I have a demo reel with some commercials I’ve made for my independent study, and some older stuff from my undergrad. classes. Is this still relevant material? How important is my demo reel?
Thanks, Jill
