[Danny Baron] “Is there a way to keep audio track names while editing a multicam sequence? They get automatically renamed to the sequence name.”
When using the “Create Multi-Camera Source Sequence” dialogue box the first menu box allows you to name your multicam source based on the audio clip name, and then at the bottom of the multicam dialogue box there is a section called “Camera Names” and you could choose “use clip names” and the names of your clip sources will appear in the multicam source window.
Once you’ve created a multicam source all clips from that source will carry the multicam source name, which is why it’s important to name the multicams properly to begin with.
Once you’ve created a multicam source you can’t change it’s underlying properties so the quickest way to find the original name of a clip is to use the “match frame” function, shortcut F, which puts the multicam in the source viewer and then hit F again which puts the original clip in the source viewer. You can also “flatten” a clip to reveal the original source clip but this is tricky because there is no “un-flatten” command and only “undo” will get you back to multicam mode.

[Steffen Kelzenberg] “The warp stabilizer does it’s job (and it takes ages to complete) but it always crops the footage too much or alternatively creates black bars around the footage. I think it gets too much confused because of the moving camera.”
These artifacts are related to the amplitude of the original movement – the more the original shot moves, the further the center changes from one frame to the next, the more the stabilizer tries to re-center the shot by moving it against the direction of the movement, the more the edge of your frame becomes visible. Vibrations have very little amplitude and can be removed without much cropping, wild camera movement – not so much.
There are many controls inside of Warp Stabilizer to help you find a compromise between smoothness and cropping.
the first thing to try is lowering the “smoothness” value, which is set at 50% as a default, to something less – the less smooth, the less crop.
The other thing you can try is to twirl down the “Borders” tab and in the “framing” menu choose “Stabilize, Synthesize Edges.” This will attempt to synthesize a background instead of showing the black borders.
The amount of synthesis can be controlled under the “Advanced tab.”I will warn you that a poorly mounted camera on the roof of a vibrating and moving car riding over a bumpy road might be beyond the ability of Warp Stabilizer to fix to your satisfaction. The stabilizer isn’t human, it doesn’t know how to separate what you might call the acceptable car motion from the unacceptable bumps in the road – it merely analyzes pixels and compares them frame to frame. You might need something like Mocha to analyze and fix this properly, and even then you might be dissatisfied with the results.

[Tom Laughlin] “took out the original processor and put in a new OWC (I think) upgrade kit 12-core processor, added new RAM, and new upgrades, so yes, the casement in original, but the internal upgrades are new.”
The OWC upgrade, which I have as well, is not a new part, it is salvaged from a used machine – intel hasn’t made those CPUs for a while, which again is why it’s so cheap. I’m not arguing against this, I have a system very similar to yours and other than Tbolt I’d put it up against a nMP any day.
[Tom Laughlin] “Don’t need Thunderbolt at the moment.”
If your working in a networked environment where the speed & cost advantages of Tbolt raids is not an issue then the refitted Mac Pro is a no brainer, as long as OSX is acceptable in your environment. If your going to buy a new computer I still maintain that it would be very short sighted not to have Tbolt.

Your comparing a “used” machine to a new machine, which is why the cost difference does not match the quality difference. Retrofitting a 5.1 Mac Pro will get you a better bang for the buck but without the ability to utilize Thunderbolt technology. Buying a new system that doesn’t have Thunderbolt is a waste of time and money. If you can add Tbolt to the Dell then it will be more cost effective once you buy a raid to edit with. Also remember that Windows Ppro systems will not allow you to export ProRes without going thru third party workarounds, if that effects your deliverables.

Justin –
Looking at your mutlicam source timeline it looks like you created your multicam using the “switch audio” option, which is why you are seeing only one “track” per video source. When using this option PPro creates a special type of audio track that contains all your separate audio sources for that camera – but they are not mixed together, this track has it’s own audio routing panel and you should have access to all your individual audio tracks.
The first thing I would suggest would be to “un-mute” the second camera, and I would also move (be sure to maintain sync while you move the clips) all the second camera clips onto a single track, track 2 in your case, both for audio and video. Next load this corrected multicam clip into the regular viewer (not the special multicam viewer) and make sure to select camera 1 (the camera with the 4 audio tracks.)
At this point you should have 4 audio tabs available on your “JustinMulticam V2” timeline. If you then select camera 2 in the viewer the available audio tabs should reduce to 2 (assuming you have 2 tracks on your camera 2 source.) If this is the case, get back to me and I will talk you through the rest of what you need to do.
I would also advise you to enable waveforms on your timeline – it’s in the “wrench” menu on the upper left of the timeline. The waveforms will help diagnose the exact problem you are having.
Good luck.

I’ve been using the 512g version of the OWC Accelsior for more than a year now as my Boot drive to beef up my 2010 MacPro and I love it, especially the additional eSata ports. On a 60% full drive I get around 600 read and 400 write using the BM speed test.

[Steve Connor] “No need for Quicktime on Windows machines if you want to use ProRes now.”
You mean for reading ProRes files. I’m assuming it still can’t write ProRes on Windows 10, correct?

August 10, 2016 at 3:52 pm in reply to: Multi-cam sequence from timeline already sync’d with plural eyesDon’t use Plural Eyes for this. Create the multicam in Ppro and and choose sync via audio for the first 2 cameras. Once you’ve created this multicam source you can add as many cameras as you want by selecting the multicam source in the browser, right clicking, and then choosing “open in timeline.” Once the timeline is open simply drop your new material on unused tracks.
