January 3, 2018 at 1:44 pm in reply to: The Color Wheels Mystery …

[Bill Davis] “Everywhere I go online today in the X community, I see posts sbout how the FCP X new color grading is “broken” or “sub professional” or “needs bug fixing, stat.” “

For months now you have been badgering this forum as a place that is inherently hostile to FCPX and lauding the other internet sites as bastions of “good-speak.” Now, suddenly, those idealic forums full of the FCPX faithful are a mob of jabbering hysterics and this forum is a model of reasonable inquiry. Funny how that goes.

December 31, 2017 at 3:56 pm in reply to: FCPX comparison ’17 Quad iMac to Octo Core iMac Pro

Not to beat a dead horse, but according to the benchmarks here – “Low End iMac Pro versus two Mac Pros and one iMac 5K” – an old cheese grater tower with a Radeon Vegas GPU (cMP 12c Vega64) beats the pants off the trash can nMpro in the GPU tests and is about even in the CPU tests. Yet more proof of what a terrible piece of crap the nMpro was and is and why an upgradable design is so valuable.

December 26, 2017 at 1:16 pm in reply to: Do Mac and Windows now diverge again with GPUs?

[Robert Withers] ” the PC may get quirky with my typical ProRes workflow.”

While their are ProRes options on the PC side none of them are as simple to work with as ProRes on a Mac. ProRes has been keeping me working with Mac boxes ever since I switched to Ppro and I wish it were otherwise since Apple has committed to optimizing their boxes to work with FCPX. I don’t think CUDA vs Open CL should be a major concern, every thing I’ve read leads me to believe they are equivalent.

December 22, 2017 at 1:13 pm in reply to: Get Additional Transitions

[Lauren Kaiser] ” I wanted to see if anyone may have some suggestions for plug ins they have and like for additional transitions.”

Adobe keeps a list of Plug-In makers here:

    https://helpx.adobe.com/premiere-pro/plug-ins.html

Along with FX Factory I would recommend Boris FX Continuum and Red Giant Universe. They are much pricier but extensive collections that you can also get by subscription (Red giant Universe is only by subscription )

December 18, 2017 at 1:13 pm in reply to: PrmierPro Multicam with Manual Timing

[Mikkel Laurendz] “How can i make this a multicam now that it is all synced up?

In the bin, right click your sequence and choose New Sequence From Clip. (Target Sequence.)

In the timeline, right click on that newly nested sequence and choose Multi-Camera>Enable.

  • [Lauren Kaiser] “Once I move the video clips, is there still a way to have Adobe automatically sync up the individual video clips to the audio track, or will I have to do it manually?”

The clips will be in sync on the timeline to begin with. When you consolidate the clips to 2 tracks just make sure you maintain their sync relationship with the timeline – hold the shift key down as you move them with the arrow keys.

December 17, 2017 at 4:51 pm in reply to: iPad Pro Vs Surface Pro

[Steve Connor] ” The fact that a major release of FCPX has happened there isn’t a vast amount of discussion on here about it I think confirms Bill’s theory that this isn’t a place that FCPX users like to hangout any more.

I just checked the regular FCPX forum and nobody is talking about the new release there either. In fact there’s more posting here on 10.4. I have no way of knowing, but maybe it’s a boring release. Since your here, tell me what’s new in 10.4

  • [Lauren Kaiser] “is there a way to say these 5 clips are all camera one and these 4 clips are camera 2 and have it match them all up to sound track as close as possible? “

Based on your description you have 2 issues – one of your three cameras has no sound (and I’m assuming no timecode) and you have multiple takes per camera.

Select the clips from the browser that come from the 2 cameras that have audio on them – when you make your multicam clip Ppro will put each clip on it’s own track, which is not what you want. However you can easily open up the multicam timeline (multiclips are specialized nested timelines) and drag all of your Camera A clips to track 1 and then all of your camera B clips to track 2 (remember to consolidate your audio tracks as well.) So even if Ppro originally gave you a multicam with 9 tracks, it’s very easy to reduce that down to the 2 tracks for 2 cameras. Then you will have to manually place the clips from your third camera on track 3 and sync them as best you can by eye.
