sometimes it gets stuck on a bad file in the mediafiles folder.

you can peek in for obvious suspects (syntax stuff usually)and try to put them on the side and re-scan.
or use the method of halves, scanning a half of your media files each time until you find the problem

Avid has the option of drive filtering, usually on system or network drives, and usually selected by the user

go to settings – media creation and check there

i think i saw this issue on a mac running Lion with MC 5.5, is that your case?

in any case, you should read a little on how to properly work with Avid.
for DSLR, you shouldn’t import but rather link to AMA then transcode.

also, you didn’t mention whether you had drives connected or not.

you’re probably in the wrong forum. i would seek help from an Audio professional. they have a myriad of wonder tools to do all sorts of things.

and yet.

i saw a presentation of Izotope (RX i believe), and as the speaker is a colleague and friend, i got to play with it a little afterwards with a few problematic files i had (including crackles).
it blew my head off.

you can apply a cc effect (in the image section) to a track above your shot (separate with Add Edit) then open color correction and grade, it will affect the image bellow

make sure you have the correct (upper) track selected

you can also Alt-drag the cc filter to the P&Z clip then open CC mode and grade

few house keeping tips 🙂

Avid will always write to the folder named “1” in your MXF folder
it will read out of any number (even non sequential, so 2,3, and 27 are good)

if you want to separate transcoded/captured/consolidated/imported media,
you can rename the 1 folder any other number before you start your process, Avid will recreate a 1 and write to it.
when done rename it again.
just keep track on some text file as to which number refers to what project.

also, renders will keep writing to the current 1 project and sometimes you have to transcode mid-project… just keep watch.

thing is, if you master the Media Tool well, you can do most of your house keeping from there, including, accessing, deleting and moving media and render files of any project on your drive.

i wouldn’t go the way of renaming the MediaFile folder to separate projects, unless its a completely external project you want to fully separate from your other projects.

from my (quite extensive) experience, though in some cases they do work surprisingly well, under-spec systems are generally unstable, and often fail, forcing constant maintenance and workarounds. unless you work very little.

i recommended him an iMac because he already owns a MacPro.
its an Avid qualified system for MC6,
