MC grading tools are stable, decent+, primary correction tools,
Symphony will add you several better primary tools and basic secondary tools. I’d say secondary for broadcast and non narrative use.
it was “top of the line” many years ago,
honestly, even Da-Vinci lite kicks its ass in matters of secondary tools and workflows.

universal mastering is great, but only if you need it.

maybe DS is a better comparison to SMOKE, though not for MACs.

i think that in times where Adobe Premiere is considered a decent editor, SMOKE could be counted as one too. its definitely not Avid, but its really not that bad. in so many other aspects SMOKE is light years ahead of symphony.

don’t look for an all in one.

and think of it this way. as long as its a good solution for the next 2 or 3 years, it’s an OK spending.
I will pay for itself long before that.

however, if you buy an under-spec windows system, you might run into constant bugs, a shorter life comp, and your 2 systems won’t perfectly talk to each other, eventually you might end up spending more in the long run…

(and why do you need a TB black magic card for your b system?)

however.

if you do want to go that way, i would strongly recommend an Avid supported graphic card (ie quadro) don’t save there.

if in PC you mean personal computer, and you already have a mac workstation, then you’d be better off getting a strong iMac than any windows system in that price range.

the Macbook pro 15/17 is a good option too

actually, for 720P, you have only the fine choice of the DNXHD 90
and the slightly less fine DNX 60. the 90X option is irrelevant as none of your footage is 10 bit

go with 90.

all avid codecs (except the ones named with RGB) are 601/709
that would include Avid DV

if you use MPEG streamclip to encode your files to Avid DV
make sure they are 601, and lower field

in your import settings put 601
and in your media creation settings, put DV 25 in the import (411 if you’re in 30fps countries)

now, when you import the files, Avid should mark “fast import” on the import window.
meaning you are merely re wrapping the files into MXF

if not, you could link the files by AMA, and see if you can work with direct link, or transcode them if you feel it lags

you should also map the quad split button somewhere in your interface or keyboard to enter multicam mode.
i would take 20 minutes to read the manual chapter on multicam.
this mode has many features and options, and may get tricky.
