    Thank you.

  • Try rendering small pieces of the timeline – say 15 seconds at a time or even less. Since you have s short film, it may be best to render one shot at a time. You can then isolate the shot or shots which are causing the crashing.

Don’t export as a reference file – do an export as a Quicktime file.

Then let me know how you get on. OK?

This can be fixed. I’ve had trouble with crashing on renders a hell of a lot. You have to find the troublesome patch by a process of elimination.

So, in order to render bit by bit, only highlight the piece you are going to render, and then, render JUST the highlighted piece. You will find that there is a command for doing this in the drop down menu.

If you don’t understand what I’m saying, post again and I’ll try to help.

I have a plug in called SPOTLIGHT. I believe that this was part of the original FCS package and not one that I purchased.

I suggest digging through your plugins. I use it frequently and it’s great and easy to track with.

You say this is a huge project. So maybe you have loads and loads of sequences in your browser

    Try this:

    Make a NEW project.

Move only one or two of the sequences over into your new project’s browser – just drag them over.

Close the huge project and save the new project.

    Quit FCP

Shut down your Mac and wait for 3 minutes before restarting. I know that sounds crazy, but I have tested this issue and the 3 minute thing actually does make the Mac clear it’s poor brain out.

    Start up etc.

This worked for me on a massive project when I started to experience slow downs and multiple crashes.

If you want to submit an idea I have to send you a release form. In order to do this, you have to send me your email address.

    OK?

I do not understand what you mean by the comment “Your form will do it, I guess.”

    Please explain …?

    Patrick,

I am indeed the scoundrel who directed those pictures many years ago.

I have been approached about sequels several times, but never found anything I particularly wanted to do.

If you wish to send me your idea, then please give me your personal email so that I can send you a release form before you send or submit anything. I hope you understand, but the lawyers won’t let me read anything unless it comes either through an agent or manager, or with a signed release form.

Do you live in the USA?

I hope to hear from you soon.

    Thank you.

    Harry.

    Try this guy:

    Benoit at:

    https://aeroquartet.com/

He has done QT repairs for me before and he is professional and reasonable.

How it works is that he sends you a program which extracts a very small sample from your QT file which you return to him.

He then works on a repair program “kit” which he emails to you and that you run on your corrupt file. It’s very easy. You follow simple instructions.

If it works out ok, you pay him and he sends you a code so that you can save it – at least something like that.

    His fee is $149

I have had two good experiences with him. He pretty much saved my bacon, in fact.

Please let me know how you get on.

    You won’t regret it.

    Best wishes.

    Harry.

Tell Benoit that Harry Bromley-Davenport from the feature film “Nasty” sends his regards.

I couldn’t live without the Noise Industries stuff. But it isn’t free. They also are pretty good on service, answering questions by email etc.

Suggest that you make sure your prefs are fully and properly trashed by downloading the free app “Preference Manager”.

Also suggest you run DISKWARRIOR. If you don’t have it, you can buy and download for about $70ish. By the way, you should run D/W more than once on each drive, because it sometimes misses something.

If you do those things, then, hopefully, you will have eliminated a lot of potential problems.

When I hit a phase where I am getting a lot of crashing, I usually reinstall the System and FCP, which really isn’t as awful or time consuming as it sounds.

In any case, that’s what I would do personally. I am sure other readers will have ideas which apply more closely to your particular situation.
