Could you upload a sample? You may have a defective unit. Although for what its worth, it may be comforting to know that we have sold hundreds of RODE VideoMic Pro mics and none have been returned defective so it could just be a rare instance.
Might you have another camera, recorder or maybe even a computer with Mic input to test the unit with? RODE has a great 10 year warranty so you can just send it in or return it to your dealer if it is indeed defective. I don’t have a 60D, but with the Canon 5D Mark II and Panasonic GH2 we use, it sounds fantastic. Just to give you an idea, here is some examples with the T2i and Magic Lantern https://magiclantern.wikia.com/wiki/Unified

You can absolutely use small lavs such as the ME2 and RODE lav with the Edirol R-09. I’ve also used my Countryman B6 with the Edirol R-09 and Edirol R-09HR. You just need to turn on plug-in power for it to work.
1 Press and hold down the FINDER/MENU button until “Menu” is displayed. 2 Cursor down to “Input Setup.” 3 Press the REC button. 4 Cursor down to “Plug-in Power.”
5 Press 4 to turn plug-in power on if it’s not already on. 6 Press the FINDER/MENU button twice to return to the main screen. The new RODE lavalier works very well. I just tested it with an inexpensive new recorder that is giving the Edirol R-09HR a run for it’s money, the new $99 Zoom H1. You can hear the test here https://www.dvestore.com/news/5/RODE-Lavalier.html
I like the RODE lav because I can use with my Sony PCM10, the H1, my Sennheiser G3 or plug it directly into my mixer with the XLR micon. If you get a Micon for the RODE lav, make sure it’s a Micon 2 as the 1 is also 3.5mm, but is locking and doesn’t quite go down all the way on a portable recorder. The Sennheiser ME2 stock lav supplied with the wireless should recess enough for it to be plugged into a recorder.

If you want noise free, high quality audio, go for a Tascam DR100 handheld recorder. Feed an XLR mic into the DR100, then from the LINE out, use a cable with attenuation to convert it down to MIC level and into the 5D’s mic input. Now you’ll have a sync track with your video. You can then manually sync the two tracks in post or use Pluraleyes https://singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html
The nice thing about the Tascam as opposed to other recorders is that it has a Line out as well as a Headphone out. So you can monitor your audio with headphones while still feeding your Line to Mic cable into the camera.
Here is an example with a shotgun mic as well as a wireless lav.

I was pretty impressed with a lot of the content Vincent Laforet shared in his creativeLIVE HDDSLR Cinema course – an entire 3 days of live sessions, phew. There’s a few free blurbs you can watch still up https://creativelive.com/courses/vince_laforet/. I consider all this training to be of great value for what they’re askin’.

I’ve been looking for the same thing! I wish Edirol would take the Timecode feature of the R-4 Pro and put it in their R-09, then slap a 1/4″-20 thread or cold shoe mount so I could attach it to a camera. That would be slick.

You might considering getting a handy little device to pack along if you plan on doing more of these events like an Audio-Technica AT8202 Attenuator with 10, 20 or 30 db of Selectible Attenuation – In-Line XLR Barrel https://www.audio-technica.com/cms/electronics/a05620466ab0ce16/index.html/

Probably not as great – but I wound up with the Sound Devices 302 and the Edirol R-44 recorder.

Dang, we’re going to have to talk with those Concorde people and get them up and running so Ty can make it out!
In the meantime, you might want to check out jkaudio.com they have a few devices that may be of interest.
A few months ago I had a technophobe ask the same question and while we sent her the JKaudio QuickTap, she still didn’t get how to connect it. So I fired up the ole Sony FX1 and shot this for her:Guy Cochran

Try first performing an Auto Scan on the Receiver with the Transmitter Off. If you’re fairly close, and getting those hits, Change the Squeltch to high.
One of the more important things that you can do is try to get the Antenna’s to “see” each other, not always practical, but if you can, you’re going to improve the chances of perfection. What I do is flip the body pack transmitter over so the antenna is pointing down on the presenters/talents belt. On the Camera, orient the antenna straight up or straight down, I’m not sure why those engineers made those silly camera mounds horizontal, for maximum efficiency the Receiver should be positioned straight up or straight down. I’ll even sometimes mount the Receiver nearby and run an XLR cable to the camera. Here’s a vid that may help.Guy Cochran

Are the HD-25’s that you have the newer model? The new ones are the HD 25-1 II
When I first put them on they felt like a torture device in an insane asylum. However, after I switched to the comfy velour cushions, and adjusted the caliper pressure, I was able to forget that they were on. I now find myself reaching for them instead of the 7506’s or the HD280 Pro’s.Guy Cochran
