Could you possibly rent a blimp/hairy set-up with a shotgun?
In case your lav gets pummeled, it’d be nice to have a good backup.

Just realized that I could embed the movie here.
To clarify, the headset being used is the Sennhesier HSP-4, he announces when he switches to the MKE-2. They sound remarkably similar. The receiver on the camera is the Evolution G2 100 series feeding directly into the camera via XLR. The complete set for the EW112PG-2 is around $549. That’s Bodypack transmitter, receiver, ME2 lav, camera mount and cables. For something a little less expensive without all the bells and whistles. You might want to look at the Audio Technica Pro88. And for more expensive, go for the Lectrosonics with the Sanken COS11 lavs.

I’d also recommend the Sennheiser Evolotion G2 series.
The receivers come in two styles. Rackmount or camera mount.

To give you an idea, you might want to take a look at this video.
    https://vimeo.com/1926732

That is the rackmount version. However, the bodypack/camera mount version is essentially the same. The lavalier that he is using is the higher end Sennheiser MKE-2. It’s not the stock ME-2 lav mic that comes with the system.

You might want to test by downloading a sample I shot with Reflecmedia. It’s just HDV footage, but it gives you a good idea of how it works. https://www.dvcreators.net/chroma-key-in-hd/
The footage is at the bottom, there’s also a little quicktime movie showing the steps to key in FCP.

    Hi Pat,

I’m up here just north of Seattle. One of the filters I like to have in our kit is a Grad Blue.
    https://tiffen.com/results.html?search_type_no=365&tablename=filters&family=Tiffen+Filters&search_filter_format=Screw-In

On flat gray days around the Pacific NW you can really punch up a scene with a few tricks. So I’ll ND Grad the Sky Blue, then if I’m shooting people, I use a Photoflex 5n1 reflector with the White/Gold side to warm up the talent. You can also get a matte box and use larger 4×4 grad filters. I’ve shot scenes where we did a “tobacco” sunset grad for the sky and a Blue Grad flipped upside down for the water.

    Hope this helps,
