It is possible to add at least 2 more drives to the MacPros, as there are another two SATA ports on the mainboard, you’d have to add them externally, thoough.
I wonder if one (with port-multiplication) could add another six drives.
That way you could have 10 750 GB drives before you need an XRAID or similar.
Would make a nice RAID 10 2x 3TB setup
You can of course boot from an ATA in the second optical drive bay…

Sounds like you have to check your “View-External video” settings.
Set the playback to “hdtv 720” @ whatever framerate your sequence is in.

And you could ofcourse circumvent this problem through not updating bootcamp, once you have that running…

Bootcamp runs natively, more or less like “any” pc. You will need a 3-button mouse, though.
For heavy use, I’d recomend an usb keyboard as well, as the keystrokes can get annoying (in either case).
Parallels runs within OSX.For “pro” use and gaming of XP, bootcamp is the way to go – but you’ll need to reboot.
For Office-use – parallels is a no-brainer.
Both work like a charm.

This is a nice machine -;)
The MBP is marginally faster and has a similarily marginally faster GFX card, but you’ll have to add an extra gig of ram and a larger drive to get the same specs.
(prices compared between amazon and applestore)
Mind you that you can run both OSX and XP on the MBP.
The 17″ MBP is more expensive – but also nicer…
You’re sort of in the “the price reflects the value” segment of hardware here, and its all nuances. But if you’d like a good XP machine and have a look at the OSX goodies, the MBP is the way to go.
You can either set up dualboot with Bootcamp or boot XP within OSX with parallels

Depends much on the characteristics, but soundsoap (a commersial plug) and some eq’ing could be a route if the other suggestions don’t pan out.

As for me, I never do final audio in STP.
I cut in fcp
I’ll sometimes send the session to STP to do some easy scoring.
I then export individual files from STP and an omf from FCP and import these to Cubase for final audio.
I find mixing in FCP and STP a rather cumbersome experience.
But that is only me

Are you going uncompressed for the online?
I would have captured everything as DVCPRO HD in FCP and used that as my offline format.
Doesn’t really solve the FCP/AVID issue, though, but gives a much easier worlflow.Gunleik Groven

Downgrading did indeed help.
I wonder if there was a conflict with the MOTU universal driver, because after installing 5.7.1 I had contact with neither. After downgrading to 5.6 – both work.
Just a hunch.
