I love the weed smoking FCP in the basement dudes of the world. They are who I bid against today, not high end ad agencies and production facilities. The 80s are gone. I don’t mind. I’m as embarrassed about my old mullets and parachute pants as I am my first demo reel. We’ve grown, the damn whippersnappers your mad about won’t do that for 20 more years.

Post houses use to be able to rape ad agencies with rates and billing multiple rooms per hour. Nobody had a choice at the time so the price was paid. Now that the son of the guy who wants a video has an HD camera and FCP, folks have to justify their rates. Post houses alone just can’t do that today. If you can’t produce a great turn-key production for one flat price today, you are not competing. Time schange fatser than old paost houses… hence the closing of so many.

The truth is, nobody is ignorant enough that they don’t know how to educate themselves. What is really being asked when you hear this qustion is “can you give me a lag up so I don’t have to work as hard?” They also know that answer is no. So why do they ask? Because folks sometimes give them confidence they are lacking to fullfill the tenacity required to catch a dream. They are looking for “you can do it” and “it’s very possible” because they didn’t have an authority figure to tell them that as a child. In the end we all know we are the masters of our destiny.
I see lot’s of youngans leave school with a degree feeling like a six figue salary is owed to them for some reason. They leave bitter and work for their dads. Bottom line is they all know they have to start at the bottom and some are not willing to. Simple enough.

Not quite following ya. You’ll create motion effects in the source window unless using timewarp. You’ll have to play with audio seperatly as Avid aint where Premiere was a decade ago with that.

I’m not quite following your workflow. If AE is only gonna be used for cc, man, just bust that out in Avid.
As for replacing files, a simple batch import after deleting will do that fine. You’ll, of course, have more control over the images in AE throughout the process. -
Vegas is pretty neat for it’s price. Your question revolves arounf what you want to do. If you want to be an editor, you’ll have to learn Avid and FCP to be marketable. If just wanting to make some finished pieces, you are already set. You’ll never have a client ask you what you are editing on. If your question is “is vegas as good as MC?” yes, yes it is. Tools have very little to do with the artist.
