Sony Vega vs Avid Shootout
Hello. I recently completed my first feature film having used Sony Vegas for editing(my first editing software). I’ve really thrown myself into filmmaking and am planning another feature film for next year possibly to be shot on the RED camera. Having nothing to compare Vegas to…I would like your thoughts in particular towhat I would have to gain by switching to Avid. I hate the idea of having to learn a new program but I hate the idea more of not having the best tools for the job. The main work I will be doing is editing, color correction, audio design. I won’t ever to doing any special effects (I’ll hire that out) I’m new to all this software so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Vegas is pretty neat for it’s price. Your question revolves arounf what you want to do. If you want to be an editor, you’ll have to learn Avid and FCP to be marketable. If just wanting to make some finished pieces, you are already set. You’ll never have a client ask you what you are editing on. If your question is “is vegas as good as MC?” yes, yes it is. Tools have very little to do with the artist.

Thanks for the reply! I have no interest in being an editor for others and I don’t plan to have clients of any sort. I’m producing and editing feature length films only…so I guess my question is as you said, “is Vegas good enough?”. I just have nothing to compare Vegas to so that’s why I’m asking for opinions. Am I using a boy’s toy to do a man’s job? Thanks for your opinion! Any others care to add??
