I’d make the swap to FCp and grow from there. You can save alot of moola by not spending it on the smoke, nitris or eQ. Unless you have a clientele that is specifying a machine they’d like to work on, I can’t justify the expense.

Jeff, you are faced with a wonderful problem, my friend.
The answer depends on how busy you are and how musy you’d otherwise be… without this client.
What I do is just add up the hours or days I’d otherwise bill. They are looking for convenience paperwork-wise more than a price break, I imagine. I wouldn’t gravitate toward a price break right off the bat. Have a rounded off price in mind after you lay your first big on em. Don’t round much, just enough they feel the love and keep ya busy. -
room temp is whats important. I just keep em in their cases on a shelf and make sure it never gets colder than 60 or hotter than 80. If it’s humid where you store em, like a basement, a dehumidifier is yer buddy.

Do you have sorenson squeeze? If so, you can export a quicktime reference then squeeze it to whatever floats yer boat.

I recomend just exporting an EDL for Smoke. A CMX3600 edl will work.
Smoke pulls a much larger hourly rate because of its quality and capabilities. It’s great for finishing.Years ago, people would offline on something like FCP then online on a Symphony. Now it’s quite vice versa.

by-in-large you are subtracting alot from your hourly rate by being a jack of all trades. Most looking for an editor don’t watch videographer/editor reels.
As a freelancer, yuo can feel out the market at 75/hr then rework that if need be. It’s a good round starting point.good luck in the good lands, man!

I know of no Avid solution in that price range that can gracefully do what you describe.
DS Nitrus is the closest thing and it’s way outta that budget. I’m thinkin it does these things because the code was purchased by Avid, not written.
FCP can out of the box, tho.
