Because Avid is so far behind the times with audio, you will find that you will start leaning more and more on your ear. I havn’t opened a waveform in many years as it’s just too much of a ram hog to be productive. I tap my foot and cut to the beat. I like to put edits on the kick drum both in and out so I can match em up. Now, I do turn caps lock on sometimes so I can job through and hear the exact frme I need to cut on. I also add lil disolves. Old habbit from when avid made lil pops on audio cuts. Still makes for a smoother transition, imo.
I mark in on the fly, then do the job thang when needed. If you try to pause for that in mark, it’ll be off a couple of frames.

Wacky tho. We still have high six figure brand managers pop in before the final cut with a “shouldn’t there be a logo there?” or a “the music seems too high here.”

for 4X3 output, I like to use the letterbox for grafix.
I do my own authoring. I don’t trust this stuff int he hands of others for the final produt.

It’s not a bad idea to cpature a low rez tc windw and leave it online if you do many window dubs. This way, you can throw it in with a real time pip effect.
Also, don’t forget if you have a beta deck, you can throw it into super and run a dub daisy chained off of that deck.

No fixes but work arounds include patching it, reshooting it or going with it, ie a max hedrum digi thang. Not always applicable but I throw it out in case it is. You could even type in the missing verbage n one of those bot sites where they then translate that into computer talk.

yes. You can tell the editor on the last flick had it saved in a bin and the just reused it again and again in The Secret. Ya can’t really do this with saved effects. They are saved as a time savor…a good fast starting point on a new effect… not to be used as the same anne effect over and over.

Often, I start with a 5 drame dissolve. I’ll hop on the track above that and add an edit 5 frames before that dissolve starts and add another edit 5 frames after the dissolve. I will then throw a glow on there is filler. I ofen just use it’s diffualt settings on an added keyframe right in the middle, directly over the middle of that 5 frame dissolve benieth it. I then pull down brightness, width and crank up the threshhold on the first and last keyframes. Just 3 keyframes in total and the first and last are the same. You can (and should) vary this after a while so things don’t get repetitive. Aspect changes, ect. You can even “flicker” it a bit before the transitions with a longer length of filler effect and added keyframes.
Imagination is key. It’s important to imitate looks to ensure capabilities and hone savvyness but it’s just as importent to then add a little something so they be copying you next time.

exactly. great way to go from one shot to the other. they do not have to match perfectly. We’re talkin’ 5 frames tops for the whole transition.

Looks like a snap zoom but it’s a 5 frame transition from one take to another. What you were discribing is done ver much the same way but often using motion effects as that go between instead of the fake zoom.

You can see th two transitions. I have labled whats what in photoshop just to explain things a bit.

You totally lose resolution whe zooming in/scaling up. The key here is doing it quick. As I mentioned before, a motion effect will help here if that gets too bad. I didn’t even use em in these two transitions. Basicly it’s just a three keyframe effect though. Nadda, to some blur back to nada type of deal.
Also, any efect is helped greatly by some audio to go with it. Noe the sound effts clips under each transition. Can get redundant so use sparingy but helps a ton.
