Tape damage has ruined my audio tracks
I know its extremely unlikely but has anyone got over the problem of what I guess is tape damage. Approx every 5 – 10 secs the picture has big blockies coming in from the side of frame and I lose 1 sec of audio (this is every 5 – 10 seconds remember)… I kind of guess its a lost cause but you’ve gotta ask …..

No fixes but work arounds include patching it, reshooting it or going with it, ie a max hedrum digi thang. Not always applicable but I throw it out in case it is. You could even type in the missing verbage n one of those bot sites where they then translate that into computer talk.

I once shot a whole vid with baaaad audio. It was the 90s and I was monitoring out of the camera, not the recorder. doah! Nothing was usable.
deadline was the next day and there was no option to reshoot. I overdubbed all voices using anyone’s but the person who was really talking voice. It wound up being hilarious and stood out as the coolest part of the video. People kept asking me “how do you think of these things?” well, I bagged myself but whos gonna fess up to that? They wanna call it creative genius, sweet.
My point is make sure you explore ALL options. -
Good idea, Grinner. You can get away with that once in a blue moon, but yesterday was a blue moon!!! 🙂
One thing I would ask you to do with the original tape is to play it back on the device it was recorded on. Sometimes a head alignment issue, etc., will cause playback to be an impossibility anywhere BUT where it was recorded. If it works, then capture from that recording device.
Sorry to be away for so long, guys…jobs have taken me all over the country and all over the world since the end of March. Glad to be back and finding the Avid list going strong!
