I know nobody in the industry that is impressed with purchased awards. Anyone in production (and therefor, probably not a perspective client) knows what they are and either passed or laid down $250 for their own. Those not familiar with the award, well, are not familiar with it so it’s not that impressive. If yer gonna lay down jack for a trophy, for for the regional emmy and when ya brag, just leave out the regional part. That seems to be general practice. Doesnt get many gigs but I saw a dude score a drunken soccer mom at a block party once doing this.

Awards will come your way over time. Let them come naturally and you will really appriciate them. Brag about the real awards this job offers… those hugs and high fives from happy clients.

February 8, 2008 at 7:45 pm in reply to: Productive Assistant

one can only hope production assistants are productive.
The ones who are do not remain production assistants any longer than ther ones who are not. This being the case, they are rare and very short lived.
A good assistant editor will have your bins a waitin happily for ya in the morning, along with a fine joke and a 10 minutes of good coversation. He/she is not a coffee-getter but a clean slate that is very trainable, at least in a perfect world. Their opinions are replaced by intrigue and their limitations are hazed over by nietivity. If lucky, you can squeeze rough cuts out of em in no time. This is when and how ya lose the good ones tho. They take off quick after that.

You should ask why. If it was a booking issue, ensure them you will alwyas try your best. If it’s a price issue, work it out. If it’s a capability issue, you have to know about it.

that said, approach cautiosly. Know that you are owed absolutly nothing, friends as you may have become.

fluid motion in speed ramp. On select motions that glitch (happens when trying to “morph” certain frames), you can switch that frame or those frames to fluid draft.

don’t change the aspect ratio. Just scale em down to fit.
I start with one, get it the size I want then reappy it to ther other two tracks, just changing it’s position. This way. all three are exactly the same, no matter what size I select.

[Steve Guillaume] “1.Is the media industry really trending away from Avid?

It’s growing at a different speed than Avid is.

2.Is there a benefit to Avid over Final Cut Pro?
    If so what?

clout. This is what is rapidly changing but is still the most honest one-word answer.

    3.Why do you like Avid?

That same clout. At the time that I purchased it, I could not bill a FCP suite at the same price. This too is what is changing.

4.What kind of surprise await me using the Avid?

a primative DVE, brutally creative advertising and the feeling of paying to beta-test for Avid.

5.Do I need to by the Mojo?
What are the benefits to the Mojo hardware?

IOs. Depends on what ya wanna hook up/what ya wanna do with it.

6.Where can I get a good Price on the Avid software?

    my vendor is midwestmediagroup.com
    They are very good people.

7.Any other advice or opinions you might have?

If you get software for a chick on valantines day, you better write a poem too, man.

Thanks in advance for your help”
