It’s still kind like asking how much a car cost. Wide range of options and prices but in a nutshell, about a grand each.

1. You can tell your digital cut to match tc and use a striped tape to lay off to or you can set tc on your deck, record some header and then assemble, generating the same tc from that point on.
2. When capturing from Dbeta, you can simply turn off tc in your cature tool. Not sure why you’d wanna do that. You can also change the tc be going to clip info once it’s in.
3. Depends on the overall workflow. If they are an avid house as well, you can give em the project and the tapes and let em batch at high rez. You caould save much budget by color grading yourself and if those are not options, yeas you can lay off the rough and let em do their thang.

such things didn’t exist when I was in high school. At least not in Lubbock, TX.
I made little movies on my own beginning at 14 though… when vhs camcorders became available on the consumer market. I edited not knowing what an edit was. I took my raw tape out, played it on the tube tv, put the ole Quazar on some books and recorded/paused as needed to line up shots. Name keys were lieterally done with markets and transparencies I horked from the school’s overhead projectors.
I never saw an edit suite until I started college. 3/4 inch wonderland with an ADO100 and a GVG switcher. Looked like a space ship. lol -
Espacially video. I get away with not mixing down audio sometimes.
Other times, even after a mixdown, I get interlacing where motion effects were so as rediculas as it sounds, when making a DVD, I lay it off to beta and recapture it as one source.
When people start upgrading to Premiere and Vegas from Avid, man there is somehting not right.
It’s a shame Avid decided to stop competing. -
They are but renders. SAperate media files. Not sure what caused the bug and obviously Avid isn’t either.
It would have ben something I fixed before sending out a version 1 release. Their decision to start making paying customers beta test for them is/was their demise. -
Beats title tool but much more power still exists in After Effects.
It can be a time saver if just cranking out quick news type of stuff. If going for pretty and more options, I’d skip it and just keep leaning on AE. -
When avid “upgraded” their product line from meridien, a bug was introduced that adds interlacing to any and all precomputes. They have still not seen a reason to fix this bug.
As a result, we have to mix down our stuff with drive space we often don’t have and if you look real close, you’ll see that mixdown adds a few lines of blanking up top as well.
In short, they’d rather us sacrifice time, space and wuality to make web approvals and DVDs than to fix a bug that should have been fixed before a version 1 release. -
I hate it when editors lack creativity so much they resort to using 1k tone to edit out cuss words.

When and how did this become the norm? Why not hide boobies with freakin color bars then?

You’ll wanna mix it down then export a reference file to Avid DVDit. It’ll encode a DVD for you.
