Activity Forums Avid Media Composer question regarding offline edits and timecode

  • question regarding offline edits and timecode

Posted by Dan Newton on April 13, 2009 at 7:03 pm

    Three questions

    1. How do I add a timecode to footage — -so that I can output the footage with the timecode

    2. When I receive footage with a timecode let’s say from a digi beta or SP Beta is there a way of removing the timecode?

    3. when I am done with a offline edit and I need to online the edit to another studio — the other studio need to color grade the footage and then return it back to me — can I just put the offline edit on a digibeta or do I need to do something else?

    Let me know

    Thanks,

    dan

    1. You can tell your digital cut to match tc and use a striped tape to lay off to or you can set tc on your deck, record some header and then assemble, generating the same tc from that point on.

    2. When capturing from Dbeta, you can simply turn off tc in your cature tool. Not sure why you’d wanna do that. You can also change the tc be going to clip info once it’s in.

    3. Depends on the overall workflow. If they are an avid house as well, you can give em the project and the tapes and let em batch at high rez. You caould save much budget by color grading yourself and if those are not options, yeas you can lay off the rough and let em do their thang.

    Dan,

I don’t want to be rude, but reading your questions I cannot help but think that you are going to need some very basic NLE training before you proceed with the tasks that have been assigned to you. Find someone in your neighbourhood to walk you through one or two projects, then you’ll feel much more comfortable.
