THAAAAANK YOU!!!! This has been driving me crazy. The only solution I could find was to quit AE and re-launch and that didn’t always work. Your purge solution isn’t perfect but it works A LOT better than anything else I’ve tried. Does anyone else know why this may be happening or is it just another ghost in the machine?

Chris, I have had the same problem. Compressor would launch but the batch window wouldn’t open so it was useless. Then after multiple (manual) de-installs and re-installs, Compressor crashed on open every time.

I’ve been all over the Creative Cow boards, the Apple boards… I’ve tried a half dozen things dozens of times… been working on this for HOURS. Nothing has worked. Then I came across your post. It was my last ditch effort to get Compressor working again and by God it worked! THANK YOU!

After much time and effort, I found a solution. Nothing on these posts or Apples boards worked. So in case someone else is in the same position I was, here’s what worked for me:

Go to ~Library > Application Support > Pro Apps >Internal Plug-Ins > FxPlug. You should see two items inside the FxPlug folder: “Filters.bundle” and a folder called “SmoothCam.fxplug”. If you don’t, there’s your problem. I’ve uploaded the files to my server so you can grab them, decompress, and throw them into the “FxPlug” folder. This should get you back on track.

Thanks Shane. On the PC front, I suppose it’s just as easy. Any cheap PC with a PCMCIA slot and an external drive hooked up and it’s drag and drop?

Good feedback. Both suggestions worked, shrinking the composition to 50% and/or disabling firewire preview. The latter isn’t practical because I need that preview on the NTSC monitor. I found that changing the output quality to “faster” rather than “more accurate” also helps. It’s still a few frames off, maybe 5-10, but that’s a lot better than before. BTW, Aharon, your tutes kick ass; keep up the good work.

It’s an .aif, I never use mp3s. Letting it play out doesn’t work either. It’s just plain out of sync. Like more than 30 frames.

Don, thanks a million. Yes, there were all kinds of probs with my system. The problems I was having had nothing to do with FCP. I booted from another drive, repaired the disc containing the FCP app, repaired disc permissions and voila, no more lag. Damn, I love this forum. Thank you so much.
