  • Audio out of sync during RAM preview

Posted by Greg Strange on September 3, 2006 at 12:30 am

I have one layer that has the VO and music track on it. When I scrub the timeline, everything is fine, however, when I RAM preview, the audio is way off. This is happening with all my AE projects at any resoultion and even if I RAM preview a small section of the timeline. Thanks in advance.

Are you using an mp3? If so, don’t. AE hates them and doesn’t usually play nice. Try converting the mp3 to a .wav or aiff file. Also, let your RAM preview play a few times through–if I have a complicated scene I’m working on it sometimes takes it a fews loops until it’s in sync. Bit of a pain, but eventually it gets there.

    Mike.

It’s an .aif, I never use mp3s. Letting it play out doesn’t work either. It’s just plain out of sync. Like more than 30 frames.

even with the ram chahed I’ve found that it isn’t always perfect. Reduce the size to 50% while still keeping quality at 100% – you may see a difference.

Sometimes turning off Firewire preview fixes this for me. Is there any way to get the firewire preview to sync with the mirrored computer display? AE7 seems to behave quite differently from 6.5… and not in a good way.

Good feedback. Both suggestions worked, shrinking the composition to 50% and/or disabling firewire preview. The latter isn’t practical because I need that preview on the NTSC monitor. I found that changing the output quality to “faster” rather than “more accurate” also helps. It’s still a few frames off, maybe 5-10, but that’s a lot better than before. BTW, Aharon, your tutes kick ass; keep up the good work.

glad I could help. Most of the best advice I have to offer comes from my own problems.

    Take it easy,

    Aharon
