Alex,
There is a training DVD for AVID FX, which is essentially Boris RED, that I believe is pretty good.
Once you get inside the “FX” filter the interface is the same as RED.
I have only looked at it briefly but it looked like it was well done.I am new at this as well and would like to go through it also.
Hope this helps you.

Walter,
Do you have a preference between the ATI x800XT and the nVidia 6800 Ultra?

Would I be better off converting to uncompressed and working from there?

Given the Dual 2gig G5 that I am working on, is there a faster card that I can put in it. I was under the impression from previous posts that the nVidia 6800 was one of the fastest cards for my machine.(since I can’t install a pci express card.)
At any rate, based previous posts I thought that Motion would at least play an unaltered HDV clip.
See https://forums.creativecow.net/cgi-bin/new_read_post.cgi?forumid=170&postid=856396If I shorten the clip to 10 sec. it doesn’t seem to make a difference.
Thanks

Hi,
I am a Motion newbie and am tring to get a feel for what is to be expected from this program.
When I bring in a 90sec clip and just try to play it back, before doing anything to it, it will only play back at 6-10fps. I have read here on previous posts that Motion can be slow, but is this true without doing anything to it? (see system config below)The clip plays back great on a FCS timeline.
Is this just par for Motion or is there another explanation?
Thanks for your help,
Greg

Thanks Troy,
Very helpful!
Sounds easier than I thought.Do you know if recapturing to uncompressed in FCP5 will go through Apples intermediate codec or will there be a decoder for the MPEG2 that is better?
I’ve read that the AIC is less than desirable.greg

I was told by somone at Boris that Blue is a different product (for live production) and that Red will continue to have an upgrade path.
Is this true or did I misunderstand?greg

I probly didn’t make myself clear in my previous post.
What I am trying to do is to be able to use the current version of Final Cut for an HDV project but edit it in DV mode. Then recapture everything when native HDV editing is available.
I’ve never done an EDL. But I think that is what I am after. I am not clear how to go from one resolution to another.
I am trying to avoid going the imovie HD route. I just want a project where I can recapture the native HDV at a later date when it will be built into FCP.Maybe I jumping through hoops I don’t need to but….
I’m only doing this becuase of the time frame. I can’t wait until FCP 5 ships.Any thoughts???
Thanks
