  • Video Card for Dual G5

My video card on my Dual G5 2.0 is acting up, it has given me black monitors three times and it takes me reseating the card to get it to work. I now am looking for a new card. It’s an ATI 9800 pro. since I’m having so much fun with Motion I thought i might get something a little stronger. Can anyone recommend a good video card that would be compatible with the dual 2.0 at around $200. Also should it be an ATI since the past card was ATI or can I go nVidia ?

    Thanks in advance

$200 is not going to get you something stronger for Motion.

I run the ATI x800XT in one machine and the nVidia 6800 Ultra in the other machine. Both are Dual 2.0’s and both cards were $500 plus.

    Walter,

Do you have a preference between the ATI x800XT and the nVidia 6800 Ultra?

ATI because it doesn’t take up two slots. As far as speed and response, they’re about the same, but the nVidia takes up two slots.

Also, the x800 had a deal a couple of months ago (maybe still) where you send them ANY old video card (I sent in a 10 yr old PC card) for $50 off the ATI direct price of $399. I then sold my 9600Pro for $50 on eBay. Good deal. No complaints about the x800.
