    Thanks for the reply.
When I check the openGL, what should my settings be?

The only reason I used the unsharp mask is that my footage has some focus problems. As near as we can determine someone along the line messed up the back focus setting on the camera…long story short… I need to do something to help get this footage a litte sharper.

Would it be better to sharpen after the key?

Yes, I for one would like to see something. There is very little in the way of training for this program.
One thing I would like to see is effective ideas for effecient workflows. i.e. The best way to build projects so as to minimize the drain on your computers system resources. And still be able to preview them effectively, especially when building motion graphics.

Bottom line is anything would be wellcome.

    Thanks

The reason I brought it into Motion is that I have the DVmatte plug keyer for Motion and I was just experimenting as what I could do in both programs.(btw, the plugin is very nice!)

I had not realized that Motion and FCP treated the footage differently. Thanks, that’s very good to know… and your right it makes sense. Is that info in the Manual? I haven’t seen it.

    Thanks again for you help.

    Thanks for your help.
I am able to scale the footage now.

However when I send the clip to Motion (the program) for keying it shows up in Motion scaled up another 50% or so than what I have set in FCP.
When it is saved in Motion and then sent back to FCP it is still at the larger scale.

    ???

    Hi Mark,
    Thanks for your informative post.

[mark harvey] “Are you rendering in the Red engine, or are you using Red as a plug-in through an NLE. …
I am assuming that you are working in the stand-alone (The Engine). To speed up previews, turn off motion blur on all layers. Motion blur is quite render intensive. Turn on motion blur to check a few frames, but then only enable it for final render.”

Yes, I am working in the RED engine.

[mark harvey] “Also, unless you check back-face culling in the extrusion tab, the back face will have to be rendered even when it is not seen.”

When I check back-face culling the image on the back is blanked out and does not show through the “glass” when viewing from the front

[mark harvey] “Could you not chroma key the PSD and then simply export as a TGA this frame, then map this to your object. The chroma key is being calculated on each and every frame. When you export from Red this frame (File-export-TGA), the TGA will retain the alpha info from your Chroma key. Anything that is a still, and doesn’t animate can be pre-rendered in this manner to save time.”

hmmm. Sounds like a great idea.
The chroma key is applied in order to drop out the black in the image. So Just so I understand correctly, If I export that frame with the key applied and then map that frame to the object, it will come back in with the alpha retained. I know thats a little different than you were recommeding but exporting it without the key applied will just bring it back in as a solid black won’t it? There is no alpha in the original image.

[mark harvey] “I recently rendered a 10 second movie.”

Is it posted anywhere so that we can see it?

Hey thanks again for your help. I just might get this yet

Here is a link to another training DVD for BORIS that I was directed to:

    https://www.classondemand.net/ClassOnDemand/Public/product.aspx?Product.formState=2&Product.ProductSelected=127

I don’t know anything about it, yet, but it is another option

    What is “Boris-L?”

    Sign me up guys!
From what I have seen this is really needed for Boris products.
If there were more well done instruction on the fundementals of this program, and how to implement them in a sophisticated way,
I think it would really help to increase the user base of this program.

    I know I need it.

Let us know when you get something done.

    Thanks

I’m actually using RED in Final Cut. A local VAR here recomended the Avid FX tutorial since, once you get inside of it, the program is the same as RED.

I would be interested to hear what you think of it because, as I said, I just briefly looked at it.

This program seems to be pretty deep as I get more into it. I would like to get better educated quickly and this tutorial seems to be something that can help that process along.
    I hope!!!
