I’m no expert, but I have indeed noticed how much longer it takes to render HD to mpg2 in Compressor since I have started using it. In my DVCam days I could plan on codecing a 10-20 minute program in less than an hour. Now it seems to take a good part of the day. Seems odd that it should take so long, but it does.

Are any of you concerned about getting a scratch on your archived Blue-Ray footage? I’m a little nervous about that.
The Quantum LTO seems the best archiving means these days, but I agree it is pricey. My understanding is that the LTO tapes will last for 50 years and provide one of the least expensive archiving means over the years as well. Does this sound right to you guys?
I’m very much considering getting one of those Wiebtech RTX-400QRs because I like the idea of having all those Firewire ports in the back of it as well as the e-Sata port. I would go G-Tech because of the reliability reputation but I want those ports for my laptop. Have any of you heard any contrary reports about the reliability of these drives?

I would not split BPAV folders but split the footage later in transfer. And don’t mess with anything in the BPAV forlders. Later you can determine which of the clips you want separated in XDCam Transfer or which mpg4s are the ones you want to go one way.

Final Cut 5.1 may be part of the problem, as it can’t handle various formats in the same timeline as well as FCP 6 can. What happens if you ingest a piece of the footage again without unlinking it?

Not switchable to my knowledge, but the HD/SDI output does have a 4:2:2 color compression, which is better for green screen than the 4:0:0 of the SxS cards if you use a Convergent Design method of capture. <https://www.convergent-design.com/>

I used to use Sony DVCam tape, which is a DV setting, but once I handed my tapes to a Canon user to log and batch, and of course it was ingested with Canon settings, which screwed the audio and video up considerably.

There is a case for pulling the key from the HD/SDI output which has a 4:2:2 signal. I don’t pull a lot of keys, but I understand taking a key from the SxS cards which is 4:0:0 is not the best way to do it.
