There is a way to edit mp4 in FCP by purchasing one of the Calibrated Software plug-ins <https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/>, but if you are talking about mpg2, then use Cinematize to convert to a Quicktime.

I was just talking to a cameraman friend of mine who does greenscreen quite often, and since you have a 4:0:0 compression scheme going to the SxS cards, it makes sense that it is better to take the signal from the HD/SDI output which is a 4:2:2 scheme and record onto something like the Convergent Design nanoFlash <https://www.convergent-design.com/CD_Products_nanoFlash.htm>. However the nanoFlash does not record audio, so you’d use the SxS cards for that and synch them up.

I would first ask what primary aspect ratio you will want to utilize? If it is a slide presentation then do you want the 4×3 when showing HD footage to be letterboxed or do you want to expand it so you fill the 4×3 with the HD footage.
Why don’t you try both with a start point and take a look at it? Create a timeline for the HD first, and then do the same for DVCam 4×3 format, and take a look to see what they each look like.
In my experience, when it will ONLY get projected onto a big screen at a meeting, then letterbox the HD and go with 4×3. Resolution might be a non-issue depending on the projectors. Better to find out what kind of projectors and start from there.

I had a gonzo cameraman that I trusted to do the same thing–he was originally taught to use Sony XDCam Browser to transfer the BPAV folders, and instead, without my looking, he only dragged and dropped the mp4 files over without all that other stuff! Gads! So there is a plugin for Final Cut Pro you can get to edit those stand-alone mp4 files: https://www.calibratedsoftware.com/MP4EXImport_Mac.asp Its from Calibrated Software and they actually have a plugin that will allow Final Cut Express to see Sony XDCam as well.
