No. Went smoothly. At first I forgot to add the card to the list of supported cards in Premiere so I was banging my head trying to figure out why cuda wasn’t working , but then I remembered to add it and it works great.

I would say you could start by upgrading to a minimum of 16GB of Ram, preferably 32Gb. Next step would be to upgrade your video card to a Nvidia GTX570 or Quadro 4000. The video card makes a huge difference in Premiere and the Ram will make a huge difference overall.

I don’t really notice a difference. I used to have a 5770 and switched over to the GTX570. Makes a huge difference in Premiere for speed. Noise level seems fairly quiet.
I got mine on EBay from MacVidCards. It’s the 1.28 GB model.Greg Jones

January 28, 2013 at 8:31 pm in reply to: MacPro 3.1 and GTX285 too slow for FCPX – Freezes during playbackI have a MacPro 3,1 with a GTX570 from MacVidCards installed. I don’t use FCPX on a daily basis(I’m using Premiere Pro CS6), but the few times I’ve played around with it, it seems to work fairly snappy. Maybe the GTX285 doesn’t have enough OpenCL power.

I’m really loving Premiere and Aja. Aja and Adobe really do need to do something about tape capture and layback, however. I’m currently using FCP 7 to digitize then Editing in Premiere. Not very elegant but it works.

It’s a much better experience than cs5.5, in my opinion. I’ve been using FCP for 10 years and just made the switch to premiere pro cs6 and have been very happy. It also plays nice with the other adobe products. I’ve never been a huge fan of avid but some people swear by it
