I emailed Aja about that issue and their reply was that they haven’t turned that feature on with the driver yet. They couldn’t give me a timeframe. My suggestion would be to email Aja customer support and request it. The more people that email them, the better chance of it happening.

  • I have not lost my audio. I had some audio issues, that were unrelated, but they were fixed with the latest Adobe Premiere Pro update.

  • I have a 5770 in one of my mac pros and I added it to the Premiere Pro Text thing. It helps a little bit. Premiere seems to be a little bit more responsive. The GTX570 seems like it’s 10 times faster in Premiere, Though. The GTX570 is a NVIDIA card so it uses CUDA. The card is about the same price or a little bit more expensive than the 5770 and a lot better. The only downside is that you have to hack your computer to take advantage of it.

  • I don’t think the 4870 will work. The minimum would be the 5770. I would suggest looking up MacVidCards online and get a GTX570. If you are still on a MacPro1,1 then you would have to do some things to get your computer to boot into 64bit mode for the GTX570 to work. The 5770 or 5870 would work fine but they are a lot slower with Premiere Pro.

The shipped sailed for me a while ago. I own a copy of FCPX, but I’ve been using PPRO for over a year now. It will take something special for me to switch from PPRO to anything else right now. I opened up FCPX 10.0.6 today and played with it for a few minutes, but I have to tell you, PPRO does everything that FCPX does and a whole lot more. That being said, if I had a client who was adamant about a project needing to be done in X, I would not hesitate to do it.

Or have whomever machine you are editing on, purchase Compressor for $49 and then you can have all the ProRes Codecs you need.

October 18, 2012 at 9:10 pm in reply to: What’s the best graphics card for Mac Pro?

I have a GTX570 in my Mac Pro and it runs incredibly fast. Its the 1.2GB model so the only ‘hack’ I had to do was add it to a small line of text in a Premiere Pro document. No other hacks needed. I’m running 10.7.5 and Premiere Pro flys and does many layers of real time effects. That being said, Final Cut Pro X doesn’t seem to run any faster than it did with my ATI 5770, but I’m not using X so it doesn’t really matter to me. I’ve pretty much switched over to Premiere Pro CS6. I would recommend the card sold on ebay by MacVidCards as he has altered the card to boot properly in a Mac Pro.

October 17, 2012 at 3:25 pm in reply to: Premiere Pro CS6 vs FCP for C300

I too worked with FCP for many years. I tried Premiere Pro multiple times over the years and it never worked for me. This all changed when CS6 came out. I have moved on from FCP to Premiere Pro CS6 and it’s amazing how much better it is. My workflow is so much faster than it used to be. I haven’t had a file that it couldn’t play. Files that I used to have to spend hours transcoding or rendering, now just play in CS6.

Now saying all that, I have not worked with C300 files, but I’m sure you will be surprised at how much better Premiere Pro has gotten over the years. I just set the keyboard shortcuts to FCP and it’s like I’m working in a really fast and sleek version of Final Cut Pro.

If you put a NVIDIA card in your computer it will make it even faster. I have a NVIDIA GTX570 in my Mac 3,1 and I can do 7 or 8 layers of effects with no rendering needed, until the end.

I’m sure they are all good. I can say that I own an Aja Kona 3 and Aja customer service is some of the best in the industry. They stand by their product and are easy to contact.
