Just got my answer from Andrew Finkel at AbelCine/NY. Andrew wrote:
“It is not possible to swap either the All Files or Scene Files between the F55 and the F5 and vice a versa as the two cameras have different menu options and the colorimetry of their sensors is different.
The F5 and F55 cameras will not allow you to load from each other and your SD card files will not be recognized by either.”GOODWINHD.COM

thanks for all of the great feedback! I thought I read somewhere that you can’t use PL-mount lenses with the 7D because it protrudes too far into the camera, plus there aren’t any good PL to Canon adapters? maybe I misunderstood. I did order the Canon 28 – 70 2.8 and the Canon 50 1.4 today and plan on using my Nikon 70 – 200 2.8 with the Fotodiox adapter, considering some of your other suggestions for furthur purchases. I’m also ordering some of the lensgears from Redrock Micro to work with my Chrosziel follow focus and step-up rings so I can use my 4X4 mattebox.

Good to know that it is possibly fixable, I’ll send one monitor in and see what they say. Sorry it happened to you but good to know its not just me it happened to. I had been advised that it is never a good idea to lay the monitors flat, plus I think it mentions it in the manual.

The spots are permanent on the screen. I have 2 of the monitors and have the spots on both. I protect the monitors with a piece of foamcore over the screen itself and put them in a Pelican case when transporting/storing them and I always keep them vertical when not in use.

Thanks for the reply. Then what is the easiest way to match the two cameras?

Thanks, the specs just say that it has an A/V minijack, USB, and IEEE 1394. I’d assume the A/V minijack is a RCA breakout cable of 1 video and 2 audio but I can’t find any definitive info on that, and this is one of the main reasons I’m looking at the camera.

I’ve experienced that even the heavy-duty Isreali arm is not strong enough to hold the 8.4″ monitor with a battery attached if you are moving the camera around, you’d be better off with a straight spud.

I know the HV10 can be used as a playback deck, but can you use it as a record deck?

The heavy-duty NOGA articulating arm is the best I’ve seen, but it can barely hold the Panasonic 8.4″ field monitor with an Anton/Bauer dionic battery on the back.
