Has anyone experienced internal black “spots” showing up on their Panasonic 17″ monitor. I don’t think it’s caused by someone touching the screen because they show up in strange parts of the frame.

Are they intermittent black squares from material shot on a Varicam?

The spots are permanent on the screen. I have 2 of the monitors and have the spots on both. I protect the monitors with a piece of foamcore over the screen itself and put them in a Pelican case when transporting/storing them and I always keep them vertical when not in use.

I hope they’re still under warranty; if so send them in! I’ve never heard of such a problem, but you should definitely involve Panasonic in a solution. Talk to the service manager or product manager.

Are LCD monitors to be stored upright?

I had that exact problem on my 17″. I thought it was dead pixels, but Panasonic told me that it was dirt(?). It had never been out of the studio, but c’est la vie.

They charged me about three bills to open it, clean it and return it.

Good to know that it is possibly fixable, I’ll send one monitor in and see what they say. Sorry it happened to you but good to know its not just me it happened to. I had been advised that it is never a good idea to lay the monitors flat, plus I think it mentions it in the manual.
