Hi Luiz, you could precompose the layers and then use Layer Styles/Stroke in the initial composition.

Hi Chris, I think you need a Track Matte. Lots of tutorials around to check to see if that’s what you want.

Hi. I downloaded the file but my machine won’t recognise it (???). However my thought would be to make a mask around the text, set it to subtract. Then add a copy of the footage underneath and reposition it (and possibly scale it up?)so that the blank area that is underneath the writing fills the hole. May be worth a try.

Hi. Precompose the layer your are going to roto, add the effect(s) in the precomp, go to your main composition and rotobrush the precomposition. When you are finished go into the precomp and delete the effects. In your main comp the precomp is the rotoed copy.

Hi. No, just delete the effect(s) from the layer that you have rotoed.

Hi Anthony, that’s what I frequently do and then simply remove the effects from the copy that I’ve rotoed and use it.

Hi Putopian, I’m not sure how you did that? Press the – and delete the dashes you have, then press the + button twice and you should have a Dash and the a Gap. It should be that simple.

Hi Ewan, it’s called “compositing” and it is a complex process. There is no button that you can click. Basically you place the new object on a layer above, if something crosses in front of it you need to mask that out and place it on the top layer, then you have to track it to the correct position if the camera is moving – a detailed description would be a epic. You really need to understand the basics of After Effects (layers, masking, colour correction, tracking etc.) A good place to start is here:

Hi, you can see previews by using Adobe Bridge. In my PC the path is: Desktop >Windows (C)>Program Files>Adobe>Adobe After Effects>Support Files>Presets>Text. Select the desired folder and then click on any preset and it will show in the preview window.
