Hi. Depending on what you are doing but you may be able to use the masked layer as a Track Matte.

Hi Manish. You can do them a couple of ways. One is to use the Colorama effect which allows you to set transparency on a gradient – but it might take a while to understand the effect if you haven’t used it before.

Or you can use the Gradient Fill or Gradient Stroke when creating a Shape Layer:
Twirl open the shape layer, then Contents/Gradient Stroke or Gradient Fill then Start Point
A guide line will appear near your shape with two ends (sometimes difficult to see) drag the ends so that it is the length of the shape you want to fill – this sets the beginning and end of gradient.
    Colours/Edit Gradient…
A Gradient Editor box will appear with a colored strip along the top. On top of that are two black ‘stops’. Select one and then underneath “Opacity; 100%” will appear. Change it to 0%. You can drag the stop to change the position where the opacity change takes effect.
Then select your Color(s) by selecting the color stops under the strip.

Hi Dario. I would strongly suggest that you use something that looks like real “tar” and have it laid along the path he walks. It need only be wide enough for him to walk on and you can fake the rest of the floor. Trying to get that stickiness looking real would be a nightmare for even an experienced VFX person.
Blaise has given you good advice and options. There are a lot of tutorials around about green-screen and set extensions, so make sure you have a good idea of EXACTLY how you are going to do it before you start shooting and save yourself a lot of headaches.
This might give you some ideas:

  • Hi, probably the simplest way to do it is to time-remap your layer, turn off the sound for that layer. Add another copy of your footage underneath so its audio will play.

If you have access to a music composition person, or program, you could sample the sound and then use “Repeats” and “Accelerando” to do what you need. Sorry, nothing else jumps to mind, however someone might be clever with loops and timing expressions even?

Hi Mark, perhaps I’m being dense but I’m having trouble figuring out exactly how you need it to sound. Do you need a regular, steady beat like a metronome ie. at the beginning of every second there is a tick, then another tick gets added at the half second, then another gets added so that the ticks sound at thirds of a second, then another is added so they sound at the quarter seconds? Or are you after an irregular beat as if, for example, you used footage of a clock (with sound) and you speed ramped the footage?

Hi Sohit, you should be able to achieve a very similar look by using the ‘Bevel and Emboss’ in layer styles. Play with the Depth, Size and Softness, then the Angle and Altitude to fix the shading/lighting direction.

    Hi Chad, you sure can.

Hi Michael. I suspect what you mean might be “morphing” – one shape becoming another over time? If so there are a few tutorials around (and programs for that matter).
