Hi. What exactly are you trying to do – why make a mask?

Or, going with your original idea;
Circle shape, no Fill, Stroke same colour as your background, Line Cap Round – Trim Paths to get one side of your arc. Add the Mirror Effect and set it up to create the other half of the arc.
Layer/Layer Styles/Stroke – set colour/size. -
You can place your time indicator where you want the precomp to start then, with the layer selected, press the left bracket key ({) and the layer’s in point will snap to the time indicator. Pressing the left bracket key (}) will snap the end point of the precomp to the time indicator.

Hi. If you make each precomp only the length you need – not the length of the whole master composition – you can place or drag the precomp to the time you want it to start on the layer. Is that what you mean?

Hi Reid. I don’t know that you will have any luck trying to find a tutorial for that, though if somebody does know one I’m sure they will chime in. The problem is obviously matching the shots in every detail – that’s a huge ask. The only thing I might suggest is looking for “morphing” tutorials if you have footage which matches really closely at the cuts. Good luck with it.

Hi Damian, I’m a bit confused. Is there a reason that you can’t make the dashed strokes in the precomp, then use the main comp to add the Layer Style? I’m sure I’m missing something?

Hi, You could try creating a screen size comp (1080×720?), drag the master comp into it then slide it on the X so its end is flush with the screen edge – it becomes Screen #1 (better to do the math and slide it the exact number of pixels). Then duplicate that comp and slide the master comp 1080 pixels along, duplicate that comp and slide etc. etc. to create each screen. Should work in theory.

Hi Georgia. Do you mean that the path jumps and joins up – that as you follow the visible path around it is closed? The reason I ask is that if you have an open path and the Fill is not set to Alpha you will have the fill showing and looking like the start and end points are joined.

Hi, not sure but the Puppet Tool could be of use if the Puppet Overlap Tool is flexible enough!?
